Is the "hum" sound like the hissing of air into the intake? If so, that's normal, cause my short ram does it anytime my car is running...

instructions:

1. get the neccesary supplies...2.5 " u-bend pipe, fernco 2" to 2" couplings....filter (if 3 inch you must make adapter like i did)

2. jack up car and take off wheel

3. remove wheel well splash pan (lots of screws and nuts)

4. remove splash pan under fender

5. remove fender bar thing ill get pic...you cant miss it it right there when u take off the splash pan

6. unscrew the fuse and relay box (lower and bigger one)

7. take off the battery holdy things and push the battery away from the right fender

8. remove stock piping in fender (lots of black stuff) and pull the stock pipe that runs into the air box out (this is VERY HARD, thats y u need to remove the fender bar thing)

9. remove stock air box and intake pipe rom throttle body

10. with everything out of the way you can now see the path of the pipe to be laid.

11. folow the del sol direction for makin the cai but ignore the last piece of pipe as i did not use it (if u dont use adapter for filter then u will have to this piece becaase the filter neck will be too short)

12. put on the couplings and tighten them (not too tight as i broke some)

13. make sure all fit and then take pipes all out and on the upper section of pipe cut a big hole for the air sensor (use a rubber grommit for a tight fit)

14. paint the pipes any colour u want and let the paint cure

15. reinstall the pipe and filter into the car

16. put everything back except for stock air component (ie air box..both pipes...charcoal canister)

17. start it up and enjoy

^this is for 5sfe engine only

maybe some torque and faster revs. no way in hell to get 15 hp with a cai, unless you live in alaska.

Just to add, when you go for the airbox, just undo the screws and rip that little bitch out of there. It is a pain, so give it pain.

but anyway...l33t...

hi, thanks for the instruction. i have a gen4 5sfe.. and i was looking for a way to get the pipe from the engine compartment to the fender.. on the side wall of the engine compartment there is a hole for the stock intake pipe.. but i think its too small for a pipe to fit in.. (i havent remove the fuse box yet, so i dont see the whole thing). my question is.. what did you use to get it through the side wall?

theres a hole where the stock airbox was, take out the stock box and you'll see it. take out the stock piping chambers in the fender and theres lots of room in there.
did any of you search? i did a DIY on my custom CAI, with a bunch of pics, and even video of how it sounds..

if anything you'll LOSE a lil torque, but gain high-end power with it.. faster revvs definitely..

can you describe the hum? i have a video of my engine at idle, ill take a look at it later but not sure what you are talking about if its not the hiss of the intake (bTw i LOVE that sound heheh)
