saving gas?

Does it actually save gas when you shift to neutral? (say when you stop at a red light)?

Im not sure, but when your idling in drive, your engine does kinda of use a little gas to get it going, so i guess when u shift into neutral it does save a little gas... not a hole helluva lot... but i cant be to sure...

i'm not sure either but i do it once in a while. say when i'm far and i'm going to hit a stop sign or a red light i just shift it into netrual and let it kind of coast there.

I don't see how its bad you're disengaging the engine from the tranny.

It doesn't save you anything when your at a complete stop but when you are going down hill it does if you follow the same route everyday

i dont know about the automatic... but as VVT-i sed, i cant see how engaging into drive will destroy your transmission. geez, if your car stuffs up cos you put it into drive then theres gotta be somthing wrong! if its a manual and youre always on the friction point reving too hard then itll put unnecessary on some components but it still shouldnt mess up your tranny, not for a while at least

im pretty sure my car's best fuel economy is at 90km/h in 5th gear... not counting when its in neutral, also going behind a truck or something bluff will save a bit of fuel at higher speeds.

I heard that keeping your car in neutral is bad because something about some fluid/oil is not going to some part of the car. thats what i remember from what i heard.

at a stop the idle actually goes up if you shift into neutral. so I would guess it wastes gas. you know what REALLY saves gas? turning off the key when you decelerate. I noticed on my old Sentra I could do that and as long as I turned it back on while I was still going over 30 it woudl start running again. doesn't work on my gen4.

^^ are you serious? you will save petrol that way... yes, but surely you are aware that its detrimental to the engine
