slipping tranny

yup the tranny in my camry is slipping in 1st gear some times. also when i put it in the drive it sends a nice shock through out the car. well i just saw the engine mount post and i'll check them later today but the slipping i want to get fixed. i already flushed out the tranny. is there anything more i can do or should i give up and just take it to a shop and see how much they want to fix it, also can the 96 1mz have a manual? i know they didnt come with one from toyota but i know later years came with one, that or is there a chance to get the IS stearing wheel and with the little buttons to change the gears on it in the car? blah blah blah ... now to check that egr system!

Well, "Performance shifting" as it is called, is possible. But it would be more work than it is worth. And it is just a cheap way of shifting your automatic. Not worth the major modding to do it.

A tranny swap to a maunal is do-able, and has been done. But the question is how much you want to drop into the work. If your not doing it yourself, it will be extremely pricey. Most of the people I know have done it themselves.

The worn engine mounts tends to send a shock through the car when shifting into reverse. I'm not sure about drive. It shouldn't effect you there. That may be from bad tranny mounts.

As for slipping, in what way is it slipping. As in, it will lock in to first, and then loose grip half way through the RPMs? Or as in when you shift, it drops before locking in?

well it go in to drive with the jerk then some times with take off it will slip or it seems that it will take off but slip at low rpm's only does it in 1st also it does more likely if i'm trying to impress the ladys or go fast right quick.... and i checked the passenger side mount it seems to start going bad i have a tube of windsheald glue i might do that to fix her up how do you check to see if them shock like mounts are bad?

Your tranny may be kicking it man. When mine gave out, it was slipping. I would accel and it would let go, so I would step off, and accel again, and it would let go of gear. I'd bring it in really soon and have it looked at.
