Would the 2001 Camry V6 (OBD2 compliant) go into diagnostic mode by inserting a paperclip or small jumper wire to bridge terminals TE1 and E1 of the diagnostic test connector in order to retrieve error codes?

I know that this procedure works with earlier models but I do not Know if it works with this year 2K1.

I am aware of the DLC but rather avoid testing from this connector since I do not have a tester or even any error codes.

Just planning ahead so I don't cause any engine problems while I trying to figure how to retrieve error codes.

Won't work.

You need a obd-ii scanner.

if you have auto zones where you live just go there they check it for free there .... well at least were i live they do ..... or just jump the borrder to candian tire they do it for free and you get a little vaction in the process

THX for your replys, there are more then enough Auto Zones nearby.

The Hayes manual indicates that the Diagnostic Test Connector can be used to retrieve the error codes for the ABS. The ABS lite will pulse out the error code only for the ABS.

Also when I had my car inspected the mechanic placed a mating connector to the DTC probably to test the emmissions.
Is this a correct statement?

If so, then

Why did he not use the DLC instead?
Are they in parellel with eash other ie: DTC and DLC?
