ok upon buying my car from a used car lot. i found the clowns there put the wrong fuses in. they put 40A's in 30A slots. i've changed them because i saw them broken and noticed it.
Now i replaced both of them at the same time with the same type of fuses i got a murray's auto. the fuse is in the engine compartment to the right of the battery and the fuses are for
CDS 30 A: electric cooling fan
RDI 30 A: electric cooling fan
so then i thought the problem was done with. the following week i checked up on them. and noticed that RDI 30 A was broken. No problem i went to murrays and exchanged it for a new one. Put that in. 2 weeks after that (today) i was cleaning the car and i said to myself why not check that fuse. To my suprise that freaking fuse is broken once again. I would assume something is wrong, but i dont understand it.
I assumed that the fuses is for A cooling fan. therefore 2 fans = 2 fuses. But if that is the case why is one fuse always breaking why the other is good.
it sounds like there a short in the fan, check the wiring and the motor thats whats most likley blowing it, also look for slow acting fuses (no sure if they make them for cars but they do exist)

the motor eh? is this one of those self fixing project that takes like 10 mins of my time. or would this rather be something i should take up to the shop?
I think i should really get on those camry manuals.
2nd time i'll ask this question is this fan really a big deal? I mean i have one working fan
The RDI fuse is for the radiator fan, The CDS fuse is for the A/C condenser fan. While both fans are mounted at the radiator, the condenser fan will run only when the A/C is ON. If your radiator fan does not run, there is a good chance that the car will eventually overheat.
Looking in a '97 book, the 2 "fuses" that you describe, are fusible links, that I suspect act as "slowblow" fuses. once you verify that the fan motor is not defective, I think your best bet is to replace them with Toyota OEM parts.

Try replacing the RDI fuse (with correct type ie: slowblow fuse), then unplug the radiator fan motor. Drive the car (Watch your temp guage!) to get it to operating temperature. If the fuse is intact afterwards, you have eliminated the wiring up to the fan right? Now plug the fan back in and drive it. Check the fuse again. Is it blown?...Bad fan motor. Not too expensive, and you can do it yourself. Maybe invest in an aftermarket set of fans. ($1-200)
Hope this helps.

PS: YES it's a big deal once Chicago gets hot this summer and you have no cooling fan!

I say that because that's what the shop bought this car for, and it's a 98... overheated and warped the head. Over heated so badly that 2 of the valve seats fell out.

Well the thing is i just got a new radiotor not too long ago installed. I guess the guys didn't bother to check the fans. Will that camry maunal everyone speaks of explain how to fix this problem?
you guys got me worried about my car overheating now. I'm really bothered by this. I was on a hunt for the fuse but it turns out i had the wrong name today. i was saying " short blow " all day long everyone gave me some dumb looks.
If you turn the fan with your hand, does it seem restrictive? The motor can be worn and cause it to draw extra power, thus blowing the fuse. Stop by any parts store and ask them to let you see a replacement fan motor. Look at it and picture what you'd need to remove and replace to do the job. Most are really easy.
also when you go to the part store look for a repair manual the haynes book part# is 92006 or isbn # is 1563923513 or click this link if you want to wait till about next mon~wed for the book http://half.ebay.com/cat/buy/prod.cg...5&meta_id=null $10 cant go wrong
