Whining noise in engine compartment

I have a 92 Camry V6 LE Sport and I'm getting a whining noise from under the hood when I'm driving (giving it gas). The noise s not there when idling. One of my neighbors heard the noise and thinks it's my fan clutch. Does anyone has any thoughts ? I read some of the other postings and I can say that I haven't had any issues with overheating or anything like that (not yet !!).

Is it the fan clutch ? Any ideas ?

Thanks...

I would guess a belt is too tight.

yup, too tight a belt or belt not aligned is the whine. It probably increases with more throttle. Does it quiten down after warmup? Belt dressing might quieten it down, but beeter to loosen the belt just a little. Will give you more power, better milage and belt will last longer.

I'll bet it's the alternator, unplug it and then check to see if noise goes away, if it does replace the alternator. Bad diodes make that sound.

Hey, I got the same problem.
The noise goes away when it is warm.
So it is timing belt too tight?
