Oil In spark plug shafts

I recently ended up having to get my engine swapped as my old one seized up. The new one doesn't seem to be as powerful, and seems to have been sitting for a while. I wanted them to swap out the spark plugs so i had my old iridium plugs in there, but no such luch. I ended up having to go pick them up only to find that the spark plug wires were falling apart on the far left two and the rubber part on the bottom came off keeping me from being able to swap the plugs. ANYWAY. Here's the problem.

Problem : Oil in the spark plug (valleys?)

Engine : 5S-FE

I'm sitting here looking at the engine diagrams, and am not too familiar with how the engine is put together as i have never taken it apart. And I don't want to take off the valve cover without knowing what I'm going for. I'm guessing it's the gromets that need to be replaced, but i wanted a second opinion on it before i ordered the wrong parts.

Thanks,
Luspher

You're correct. The o-rings around the tubes are leaking. You'll want to relpace all 4 o-rings and the outer gasket on the valve cover. They may sell the gaskets as a kit.

I'm not sure which nuts you're talking about.

I haven't worked on a 5S engine, so I couldn't tell you anyway.
Sorry man.

hummm you can always try this i had that same problem with my sisters nissan(the plugs were almost under in oil) but all we had to do was change the spark plug lines, sounds so easy too, at the base where the boot meets valve cover it forms a little seal try that if i'm wrong it's good the change out those wires

30mm

If you don't have a 30mm socket, a big cresent / adjustable wrench will also work.

i just changed the valve cover gasket. it's not that bad really, just need a 30mm socket. the four little round gaskets for the nuts came with the valve cover gasket, got the whole thing at carquest. if your engine is fairly old, it might be a good idea to change the valve cover gasket while you're there, as it has a tendency to leak in older engines.
