Put key out on "D" ?

Hi !!,
When my trans is on all position, i can put out my key and go away ... Yes, my engine go off. But normally, the key stop at the "ACC" position when the trans is on the R-N-D-2-L. What is the problem ?

Thank you

So no matter whather your in drive, neutral, reverse, or anything, you can pull your key out?... But you used to not be able?
sounds kinda like you stripped your ignition... do you have alot of keys on your key ring?

I can turn the car on and leave it in drive, and pull the key out and leave the car. Don't even have a key in the ignition but you can still drive it, you can't turn it off obviously because there is no key. Still though it is kind of funny, I can turn the car on for a buddy and let him drive somewhere without a key and then come back and turn it off. I started 3 Gen 2 Camry's in a line and left them all without a key in the ignition ready to run. I was just testing it out though, not stealing cars...lol...

yeah cars don't turn on when it's in gear it's just protection for the tranny you know.. kinda like if you drive a stick some cars won't turn on if you don't step on the clutch

Yeah, mine does the same thing, it's handy in cold weather. Just pull the key out while it's running and lock the car! Keeps it nice and warm.

The reason you can pull the key out is because it's getting worn out. Usually only one side of the key will do it, and if you get abrand new key from toyota (not a copied key at home depot) you won't be able to pull it out anymore.

Hello,

lol you do not understand... (I translated the following text by "Google" to be on only I am not mistaken in my words).

Here in detail: Once, I arrived at home at course of time... Then I took my my bag, then I turned the key in position OFF (the engine stop) and I withdrew it. Then I removed my foot of the brake pedal. Then the car it is put to move back. Then I looked at and the gear shift lever was always in position "D". Normally, in this case, the lock blocks with position "ACC" as long as the gear shift lever is not in the position of parking. But mine is not blocked. It lets me withdraw the key in any position. According to me, it would be one of the detectors of position of the gear shift lever which is in disorder. But or this detector is located? Thank you very much (is this that it was understandable this time??)

Thank you
Dave

Unhappy

sorry, this is a translation from Google ... ok, i will re-write this with my english ...

This is the story of the Key ... lol

One day, i park my camry (wow). But i forget to put the shifter in the "Park" position. I turn my key in the "OFF" position and i pull it out. The engine stop. I remove my foot from the brake and the car go back. I check the shifter and it is in the "Drive" position.

In normal time, when the shifter is not in the park position, the key cannot are pulled out. Now, in all shifter position, the key can are pulled out. What is in trouble ? A shifter position sensor ?

(This is my best english quality. Sorry )

Bye

David
