Well, I used 2.5" OD mandrel-bent, aluminized, steel pipe from JC Whitney, and cut it up.
2.5" OD seems to be more common than 3" OD on most intakes I've seen. You can use 2.5" ID fiber-glass reinforced, silicone hose to connect it together and I found it fits the 2.2L throttle body very well.
I have a 3" output Hiper Industries K&N-like cone filter, and it fits the 2.5" OD pipe well too - the rubber scrunches down to 2.5" no problem. I'm sure you can buy a K&N 2.5" ID output though.
When I made the CAI extention this weekend - up to now it was a cool air intake (in the engine bay) I was able to use 2.5" ID marine-grade rubber pipe to get the filter down into the fender.
You can buy an AEM by-pass valve in 2.5" ID if you are worried about sucking water in too.
Of course, a local muffler shop that does mandrel bending (not common however) could do a custom CAI for you - that would be slick...
Vibrant (see link to catalog below) sells polished mandrel-bent pipe sections - you just use the silicone hose couplers and stainless steel clamps to build it up... worth a look.

Hope that info helps
