MAN.....i got one...does anyone knows how many points R they taking off when i speed over 19km/h....

i was driving my **Camry** doing 90 something on a 40km/h zone heading to the airport...but there was a construction zone and i didn't know and @ that point they changed from 100km/h to a 40km/h.....and i told the cop i was in a hurry to catch a flight for my friend...and he changed the ticket to speed over 19km/h only...and $67.04.....i was wondering if it's gonna effect my points....thx...

Here are the groupings, for Ontario:

0-15 km/h over = 0 points
16-29 km/h over = 3 points
30 - 49 km/h over = 4 points
50km/h + over = 6 points

Take it to a lawyer to make sure, and if there is points associated with it, they can talk to the prosecutor and have it dropped 1 level down, hence saving you the 3 points.

But that way, you still will have a "speeding ticket" on your record and your insurance could go up.

#1: Your insurance could be raised by a greater margin, if the offence is more serious. So it is ALWAYS better to have a small offence of 0 points as opposed to a minor offence of 3 points. They might even ignore it if it is 0 points.

Insurance companies work on their own point system. It is called "Insurance risk points." Even though it is independent of demerit points, there is no cut-and-dry rules for the relation between the two. So less is always better.

#2: Demerit points could affect your licence itself, with the MTO. 9 points will require you to attend an interview, 15 point will have your licence suspended for 30 days. So having ANY # of points on your licence will work you towards those infamous goals, which I'm sure you don't want to reach!
