key in ignition warning making me mental

hey. is there a quickie way to disable the
annoying ringer that sounds when the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is opened? i had my glovebox out and it seems to be coming from behind some
air duct directly above the glovebox.

my Haynes manual has nothing about this
and after awhile it makes me want to pop
a cap in my own ass.

thnx. your fast reply may save a life... mine!

no, when ignition is switched off and drivers' door opened. my deck is not
using the ACC wire anyway. but sometimes i want to have my deck on
and do stuff in and around the car and
the ring bugs me to no end.

on some cars it's really easy to simply disconnect the door ringer relay (?) and
prob solved but this one looks to be buried.

its not in the dash....its part of the seat belt computer located under the center console. you have to take the plastic center console thing out and youll find it, its a peizo electric speaker that is soldered like mad to the board, but with a screw driver you can break it out or do what ever you want to with it, just dont break it or you wont have seat belts

Yup the seat belt computer is a bitch to get to.

You have to take apart the dash to get the center console out.

Heres a pic of the seat belt computer:

Use a C-clamp c/w padding so as to not leave any marks

Use the clamp to hold the spring loaded button at the door jamb location in.

that would stop the noise but also
the light coming on auto. when the
door is opened. i'd have to switch it on
manually and i'm kinda lazy about that.

there must be a wire(s) i can
remove off the clip at the bottom in the pic.

anyone have an idea or is it trial and error for me?

Once i found the computer, i just opened the plastic case, and...well jabbed a screwdriver into the speaker...not exactly the best way to do it, but the seatbelts still work and i dont have a stupid beeping noise anymore.

its really not that hard to get to the computer, you just have to remove a couple of screws holding the center console down, there are a few on the sides, and you have to take the arm rest off to get to a few in there but its not that bad, took me like 45min to find it, remove it, and put everything back together.

88 le: Why do you just happen to have a picture of the seatbelt computer, or did you just get bored and go and take a picture of it?

It all started when I removed the passenger side dash to remove the engine wiring harness.

So I said the hell with it, I'll also remove the drivers side dash and center console. I wanted to rewire the o/d switch anyways.

^ Haha... Yeah that beeping sound is annoying.

I'll open up the box in a little bit and get some pics of it.
