Wiper Arm Paint

As most gen 3 owners know the paint on the wiper arms fades and ends up showing the bare metal. (Look at Hondas from the same years) My camry isn't as bad as those Civics that everyone has seen. I would just like to know what type of paint would hold up the best, in that type of application. And if any one has already painted them what is the procedure for removing the arms and was it hard to sand the old paint off.

get the following supplies:

-gloss black enamel paint
-50/50 water/lacquer mix
-scuff pad
-newspaper

flip up the little cap joints where ur wiper connects to ur car and unbolt them using a wrench...forgot what size. they should come up easy if u flip the arms up.

then clean the wipers down with the lacquer/water mix using some rags. wipe with a clean rag when done wiping with mix rag.

scuff the wiper arms (helps when u paint them)

then lay out the wipers on the newspaper (after removing the blades of course) and spray in light coats with 10 minute intervals or so. better to have many thin coats than one big one.

and wait to dry and reconnect. and your done.

^ You'll want to clean them after you scuff them up, to remove any sanding dust.

Acetone also works good for cleaning metal and it evaporates quick.

I only used black tim paint from Pep Boys and alcohol to clean the wiper arms and shit.

i never took off my wipers how hard are they to come off, or they just unscrew easily

Very easy to do so. As soon as you open the hood, you will see a bolt at the end of each wiper arm, just take those bolts off and take the wipers off.

You only need like an hour tops.

I took my wiper arms off, cleaned them, painted them, installed my fog lights and installed the wiper arms again. It took me like an hour or two.

Just watch that you don't overtighten the retaining nut upon reinstallation, and make sure that the wipers are lined up right. Even though mine were ok when I did them on my gen2 last year, I didn't tighten the bolts enough and at first the arms wouldn't move.

Also use satin paint, imo you're better off because there isn't as much glare, and gloss=ricey. I go for low-key, but in the end it's your call

Go REAL ghetto...take a Magnum 44 marker and do a couple passes over the metal. Surprisingly, it stays on pretty good...lasted about 2 months until I decided to go the spray paint route

I'll take pics of mine sometime during this week and post them. I also painted the little gutter under the wipers, or whatever you call that.
