Posted on Camryman as well....

I have a 92 V6 3VZ-FE. This pipe connects to the throttle body, sorry I don't have a better pic. On the later 1MZ-FE, this pipe isn't existant; there's just a resonator box attached to it.

I'm thinking it's just for those cold days...where the engine will suck in more air to idle higher. The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning to replace the air hose with steel piping and I'm wondering if it's necessary that the pipe goes into the air hose...or can I just stick a breather on the throttle body outlet itself? Or does it need a certain vacuum to function properly? Can't find any info on this in my Haynes manual.....

Thanks

Henry, I think it connects to the PCV valve, or some other valve, behind the throttle body. I just checked my Gen3 and some "actual" diagrams.

I always thought the PCV valve was by the valve cover...since the later V6 engines don't have this big hose, most likely it's not the PCV valve. Not sure, but I'll check my Haynes tonight.

It's definately not for the PCV, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the Air Conditioning Idle up. Not 100% sure though. The best way to tell whether you can replace it with a breather is to disconnect it, leave it hang there. Then cap the end thats in the large hose and try to start the car. If it runs and runs well, then it's fine!
