removing pinstripes...DIY??

Is removing pinstripes a DIY thing? How would i go about doing it?

heat them with a blow dryer or heat gun and peel with ur finger nail

if there's left over adhesive residue, wipe it off with Goo-Gone or a bug and tar remover such as Simple Green. Don't forget to reapply wax to the area.

Not sure what your paint condition is llike but another thing to be mindful of is color mismatch. The paint behind the pinstrip may not have aged the same as the rest of the car.

^^ i had colour mismatch...not a good thing...but i was doing a respray

generally a heat gun/blow dryer will soften things up enough to peel it off...jsut take your time and dont rush things...

if you cant find goo gone, try a wax and grease remover. just get a cloth and put some wax/grease remover on it and rub it onto the glue...let it soak in a bit then try and remove it...

i have a gen 3 so im thinking the paint may have aged...alot!! i do want to get my car painted though so maybe i will say taking the pinstripes off closer to when i will actually get the car painted

i'm 75% done with mines. only 1 more side only on the doors as well. Goof-off is 5 times better the goo gone. I didn't use anything just plain old nail and time and goof-off to finish it. i kinda have a mark but nothing too noticable. Also found that the people who put on the stripe left me a nice razor mark on my driver door. Also i found that a very small chip of paint came out too. outa the whole car about a circle the size of 1mm diameter was chipped. pretty good i think. just need to finish it up.

what about this whole waxing thing?

i've always been against waxing cause of all the horror stories and the fact that i don't know how to do it right. anyone wanna teach ?

I picked up 3M brand adhesive and wax remover from Auto Zone, I'm sure one of your local auto parts shops carry it. I needed something heavy duty, because one side must of seen more direct sunlight and had turned the adhesive hard. Like Phi said use wax afterwards to protect the paint. Especially if using the 3M brand. Bowlofturtle waxing by hand is safe, maybe you're thinking of buffing?

Will it look really bad afterwards if I took my pinstripe off after 223,000 miles ??? Thats what Im afraid of... a shiny black line leftover.....

maybe i am getting waxing and buff confused but waxing is something you shouldn't do in direct sunlight correct? also if done wrong would waxing damage your car?
