I AM NEW TO THIS FORUM AND I HAVE AN ISSUE AS STATED IN THE TITLE. I HAVE AN 1993 CAMRY SE V6. WHEN I DRIVE IT FOR A LITTLE WHILE, THE COOLANT IN THE RESEVOIR STARTS BOILING TO A POINT WHERE ITS FLOWING OUT OF THE OVERFLOW TUBE. THE TEMP NEEDLE INSIDE THE CARE DOESN'T SHOW THE ENGINE RUNNING HOT OR ANYTHING. I DID HAVE THE RADIATOR AND WATER PUMP REPLACED LAST NOVEMBER. WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THE COOLANT TO START BOILING?
That sounds like a faulty rad cap that either did not seal well, either the rubber gasket or the spring is stuck. (to keep pressure in system) and allowed it to boil, or the overflow cap has been hooked up to the wrong port or hole. Try switching the coolant overflow hose connection first. Then spend, by buying a new rad cap (like 10 bucks).

well the radiator cap was replaced when i had the new radiator installed. there is the other radiator cap in the back that needs i may look into replacing. Also, my uncle told me that he had the same issues and it was his thermostat. How do you guys feel about that and if so, where can i find it.
Originally posted by atobe i don't think you have a blown head gasket or cracked block unless your car is blowing out a lot of smoke in the back
Although I agree with atobe that you do not have these issues, please do not think that white smoke out the exhuast is the only symptom of a blown headgasket. Please read the thread I provided for more symptoms of a blown headgasket and solutions to this overheating problem.
If you can hear the water boiling after you shut off the engine, I think it might be the engine head. You don't always have to have white smoke for a blown head gasket.
yea sometimes i can hear the coolant boiling when i shut off the car especially if I have the AC running. I was told the if it was a cracked block or head gasket that I wouldn't be able to even drive down the street without the car overheating. I usually add coolant about every 5 days or so and the car does drive very smoothly. I hope my babies time isn't coming to an end!!!
thank you
peace and blessings
p.s. 5spd V6, i didn't get the link you said you were going to send.
also my check engine light is on...when i got it checked out all they said was it had something to do with the overheating issue but couldn't tell me exactly what without doing further diagnosis.
If you are adding coolant every 5 days and are not noticing a puddle on the street from the overflow, it is the headgasket. If you know it's getting out from the overflow, explore all other possibilities before assuming its the head gasket.
When you hear the boiling, pop your hood and see if it is boiling in your overflow. That is the most likely place and it does not indicate a blown headgasket just because you can hear it boiling. That is the result of overheating.
Yes i do see puddles. when i finish driving and i pop the hood, sometimes the coolant in the overflow is boiling, sometimes to a point where it is boiling out of the tube and onto the ground. I have never seen any white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I was thinking maybe my thermostat may not be operating properly but I really don't know. Thats why I wanted to try to replace and take it from there?
