Was thinking about getting a new Magnaflow Tip to cap off my stock muffler. There's a 3 x 7.5 x 2.25 (outlet/length/inlet) and a 3.5 x 4.5 x 2.25 one. Both are double wall with an angle cut.
So what i wanted to know is if the 7.5 inch one is too long. I measured the stock tip and it's almost 12 inches from the muffler. I thought it would look weird but iono, give me a second opinion, 4.5 or 7.5?
The Pilot jobbers aren't that bad man, just get a stainless one... costs more... and has a little less BLING to it so it looks a little classier. As far as sound goes, no difference, but be careful as they mount with 2 or 3 brackets (depending on how big the tip is) that go through the tip and fit around the pipe... if you bend these clamps and be dumb like I was the tip will always sit sideways no matter how much you adjust it! I was out 12 bucks b/c of that... Otherwise they're good tips, but remember get the stainless! IT's painless!

ive got a single pipe muffler, and i got a shop to weld on a twin pipe chrome tip for me
but whether you get a shop to do it, or do it yourself. make sure the tip is perfectly straight and aligned at the angle you want it.
because when they welded it on for me. the aligned it to the curve of the bumper instead of aligning it straight with the exhaust cut out on the bumper.
so if you look at my car carefully you can see that the exhaust tip is a bit crooked
in my 85 escort wagon i had a straight through exhaust (no cat, resonator, and no muffler) all i had was a 4inch tip that was about a foot long (12inches) and that thing had a deep sound at all rpms btw it was unresonated. i've yet to find another tip like that but yeah exhaust tips do make a difference so choose wisely.

wow that is one long tip! was yours double wall or single? and who was it made by?
you probably had a sound change cuz it was a foot long and 4 inches wide, that is huge
Yeah, the tips I was going to get with my custom set-up were 1 1/2 feet long from the glass packs. If they are long, yes they will effect the sound. Because the sound still vibrates within the pipe. That's why you should always make sure and get the right width pipes for your engine.
If you are getting new tips for a stock muffler, they will both right on. Just tighten them on. Just like factory tips
