Accord Sedan or Camry?

My mom is currently shopping for a midsize sedan. She is looking at a 2004 Toyota Camry LE V6 or a 2004 Honda Accord LX V6. She thinks she wants a camry because it looks better than the accord sedan, but I think an accord offers so much more for the money since everything is optional on the camry. When they are comparably equipped the accord is 2k cheaper. What are some reasons of the reasons to choose the camry over the accord?

im not sure what the warranties are on the two cars...but....basically....the camry's reputation of being one of the most reliable cars on the road is by far the advantage...dont get me wrong, accords are also reliable...it all comes down to what type of warranties and how comfortable the two are (i got in an accord and was not too comfortable) camrys are very reliable and never need too much maintanance (take mine for example, 193200 miles) and i never needed a new tranny or engine or any major mechanic breakdown (recently- engine mounts (seem to wear out a lot on older cams) and the front drive axle- was a problem, second time replaced in 5 years)

it all comes down to what she is looking for in a car...i usually look past the price and go for the quality and the make of a car, of course...i have never bought a new car and prolly will never in my life (used cars are such a better deal and the money can be used to modify)

good luck!

if she wants a mid size sedan, a camry is not the way to go, its practically as big as a freaking lincoln continental, have her look at corollas

and what do you think people on this board are gonna say, choose accord over any toyota, come on

except for that traitor silverstreak

I don't think people on this board are going to say to choose an accord over a camry. Just as I don't expect anyone on the accord forum I posted on to say to choose a camry over an accord. I am looking for pros and cons from both sides.

Hey, i have a 2004 Accord, well it's my fathers, but I use it everyday. The inside is much hotter than a Camry's. The instrument panel is hot, the audio and climate control area is nice and modern.

ok, so your question is what is better about a camry than an accord and what is worse?

i've never driven either one brand new(well 2k4's that is), so i'll tell you about my experience

i owned a 92 accord and hated it(dad bought it, so not big deal). it had like 125k on it and there were alot of problems already. leaks, paint problems, tranny problems, more that i can't think of.

i now own a 93 camry...there is a big difference in how they feel. the accord was really tiny and the camry fits me well. but also there was a big difference in the options between the camry and accord. the camry is a fully loaded xle, it has v6, power driver seat, leather seating, sunroof, etc, whereas the accord was a 4cyl lx(pretty much basic).

i've driven newer accords and camrys and i'd probably pick the accord over the camry truthfully. the only camry that i feel right in is a gen 3(mine), but after about 95...accords got more spacious and more comfortable. my dad used to own a 2k2 accord and i loved it, but he sold it for some gay reason. i also think that the 2k4 accords look really nice, much nicer than 2k4 camry's.

but as for pros of my camry, quick, good gas mileage, comfortable, looks nice. i'm sure you can say the same thing about the newer models of both cars though.

id personally go for a Camry , like someone said, we are all biased towards Toyota, (being a Toyota forum and all )

i dont know if it is the same in the US. But in Aus, Insurance for a Honda is way above that of Toyota
my dad had a 98 Honda Odyssey and the insurance for that before we sold it was like $100 more expensive than we pay now for a new 2004 Toyota Kluger 4WD

What amazes me about the new v6 camry, according to Motor Trend, is that it has less power than the Accord, but is still faster in the 1/4 mile and only less than a tenth off of the accord in 0-60mph. The Camry has better initial quality remarks and will last as long or longer than the accord. The only thing an accord does better is handling, which is only slightly, making, in my opinion, the Camry a better car.

Actually with the features she wants in both cars the msrps are:

Accord - $23,790
Camry - $26,363

So since the accord is cheaper are you saying that she should by that?

I'd like to add that Toyota's have the best resale on the market. If you don't know what that means, read this scenario:

If you buy a Camry and an Accord, the minute you take them off the lot, they drop in value (according to what you paid at the dealer). If you drove both for X number of miles (assuming they ended up with the same number of miles on the odometer) and then tried to sell them, you would get a bigger percentage back of what you paid for the Toyota than the Honda.

That is one of Toyota's best selling points, aside from being mechanically sound vehicles for years of troublefree driving provided proper maintenence is performed.

Another correction... actually from my research the accord has 3% higher resale value within 3 yrs and 1% better after 5 yrs. So its about the same but if anything the accord has a slightly higher resale value.

Where did your research come from, because it is wrong. Insurance Institute & JD Power give the Camry better resale by a longshot.
