Originally posted by Stevethecleric I dont remember exactly what it was called, but i remember someone mentioning a japan only gen2 camry that came with a 3sge stock.
i have searched for awhile, but i cant find any information on this car, does anyone have any info, or at least the correct name?
It's called the Toyota Vista GT.
Yes, it had a 3S-GE stock. As well as four wheel discs, and a strut brace in the engine bay. Other than that, it's pretty normal.
It's also a 1st gen 3S-GE putting out about 140-150hp. The Japanese didn't get the 2VZ-FE V6 in the same generation, so it's kinda a tradeoff.
thats interesting, i cant seem to find much more about the vista either, but form the pics that i did find it, a 1990 vista looks much different than a 87-91 USDM camry,

There are plenty of cars with 3s-ge, like this exiv - gen3 180hp engine or 1999 celica with gen4 vvt-i 3s-ge - 200hp.
Vista GT has only 165hp, it's 2nd generation of 3S-GE - it's quite old one they were produced 1990-92, so I guess they are not in a good condition nowdays.

Japan switched to the Gen 3 Camry body style before we did. Their Gen 2s were something like 86-89.
Vista = 4 Cylinder Camry
Windom = 6 Cylinder Camry / Lexus ES

That's not a second gen though. It's a third gen.
The OP was asking about the second gen Vista/Camry GT which was produced pre-90 in Japan (87-91 for USDM). It had a first generation 3S-GE. I don't have pics of it, but it does exist. Some Russian page had the specs on it. It only got around 140 hp.
no, im not going to try and convert my car to a vista GT, but i was under the impression that there was a car that was identical to the gen2 camry built with a strut bar, special badging and the 3SGE.
the Vista is not a gen2 camry, its a Vista, they have camry's in japan if im not mistaken, pretty sure its called a camry.

There is. I have seen pictures of it. Same body style as our cars with the exception of a few small things and has a GT badge on the rear. You could recreate your own pretty easily. It's a pretty sumple engine swap and a strut brace is cheap.

No. They don't. The Vista is what we call a Camry. Some body code as well. A second gen Vista is SV21. Just like a second gen Camry is SV21. They are one in the same. Very few Toyotas make it over here without a name change.

I have seen cars badged "Camry" in some pics taken in Japan.
