Hey all, I wanna switch the tranny fluid on my '90 Camry DX (stock 4-cyl) to Amsoil synthetic. I wanna get a T-Tech done, but I don't know how much tranny fluid I'm gonna need. I don't wanna buy 16 qts and end up using 8. Or buy 12 and need 20 (I have no idea). So anyone know how much tranny fluid that engine needs?

Also should I replace the filter and gasket or not bother?

Thanks

I don't know how much fluid you'll need. However, it's generally recommended that you flush the entire system when converting from reg oil to synthetic. The reason is because a large amt of fluid is trapped in the differential as well as the torque converter which doesn't come out with a typical empty and refill job.
As for the filter, it's not a disposable type. It is reusable. So have it cleaned and reinstalled. The gasket should definatly be replaced. They aren't expensive.
Lastly, on a car that age, you might consider just changing the fluid more often instead of going synthetic for economic reasons. Just something to consider.

Ok I see, thank you, the filter can be cleaned and replaced. I was planning on flushing the system, and now I'll get the filter cleaned. I still haven't any idea how much fluid I'll need, but I'll get 18 quarts or so to be sure.

your trans holds 5.9 qts or 5.6 L in case you use metric.if you use a t-tech you should just use 15 qts any ways. but you also might have a hard if you use synthetic . it would be a good idea just to do the t-tech unless you have not done trans service regularly, or if you are having trans problems, ie. slipping, shifting too hard a t-tech might make it worse.
