Need some CV help!

This is all on a Gen 2
Man is the drivers side CV a bitch!

Thing was so messed up it just fell right off the car, it wasn't even attach to the inner housing. The boot wasn't attached, and the clamp was no where to be found. Needless to say no one had ever changed it before me.

Thing is I can't get the inner housing (connecting to trans) off for the life of me! I just spent 2 hours with screwdrivers, prybars, crow bars, wrecker bars, flat bars, chocolate bar, every kind of bar yet nothing is moving it off. Is it bolted anywhere because to me it looks like it is plug-in type. Do I need some kind of puller?

My buddy tried to help and broke his torque wrench...

put a punch on the end of the shaft (outside end) and beat the shit out of it with a sledge, that could free it up

Sorry, no help here... just a bump.

I have done 2 axles on my Camry(s) and in both cases they just popped out of the tranny with a little prying. Both on manual transmissions though. Auto trannies supposedly have bolt-on axles.

I've got an 88 camry with an automatic - Mine only had about 6 nuts holding the half shaft on the transmission. Once those are off, should come right out.

Well, there are 5 bolts on the side, and 2 for the cover. So a total of 7. I am pretty sure it is just a plug-in type CV. Right now I wish I had the bolt on, because it is a bitch.

The 5 bolts look like the hold the side of the trans on. I didn't undo it because I feared trans fluid leaking.

The left side driveshaft (shorter one) is very hard to come off! The circlip in the diff holds it very tightly. The haynes manual says to pry it off, but that really damages the housing! And it doesnt work! The way I got it off, is to carefully position the prybar at the driveshaft and angle to about 45degs. Just wack the prybar end, and finally the driveshaft will free itself loose. It's difficult to position the prybar bcos of the limited space with the car on jackstands, but not impossible.

BTW, mine is a 2000 4 cyl camry.

You better drain your trans now... otherwise you will be getting fluid all over.

i'd just put a drain pan under it, i've had cars leak a bit, not at all and some just blew their load
