Hey ppl i havnt been on here for a while, but im back . I want to know if i can mix and match any gen1 3sge or gen2 3sge parts to my camry, since i have both engines at home. The gen1 3sge is blown and gen2 if fine.....yes yes yow will say why dont you put in the 3sge, the reason is, i want this car as a daily driver and buy a oldskool celica to work on, so i dont want to have many probs with the camry which il get by putting in a 3sge.
Anyway i want to know what mods i can do engine wise?, as im getting the engine rebuilt very soon. My mechanic said we can port the head get lower comp pistons which will make it over a 2.0L engine.

Well the internals from a 3S-GE will work on a 3S-FE. They share the same block (3S (3rd gen S block)).
The pistons on a 3S-GE have a higher compression ratio vs. a 3S-FE.

Not quite.
Boring and/or stroking will increase displacement. You can use a crank from a 5S-FE, this will increase the stroke. However you'll also need to change the rods, 5S has bigger rod journals.
And changing the compression ratio does not change the displacement of the motor.

Yeah thats what i mean in increase the displacement by boring making it more than a 2.0L.
Sorry if im saying wrong things im no mechanic but i want to learn .

Yes, you can use the internals (crank, pistons, and rods).
The head will also swap over, but if your gunna do that you might as well drop in the entire 3S-GE. No sense in swapping the head over.
Hey ive decided to be different and use the 3sfe and sell the gen2 3sge coz i wont have probs with custom modifications, and a lot of ppl say the 3sfe is a waste of time get the 3sge and i want to prove em wrong.
My friend has a 1988 st162 gen1 3sge (stock) and exhaust and extractors etc and another friend with a 1991 sv21 camry stock 3sfe and on the dyno the celica made 79kw (105hp) and the camry 74kw (99 Hp) at the wheels so it shows a 3sfe has potential i will go with the 3sfe and see how i go . My friends celica is currently at 80kw at the wheels i need to beat him and i think i will when the camry is rebuilt. Show people the 3sfe has potential too! .
If you already have the 3sge, just stick with that. The only custom modifications are the wiring. If you have all the accesories and a 5 speed then it shold be a pretty simple swap. I guess I am being a little hyposritical because I decided to build upa 3sfe but I just went ahead and bought the JDM one.

Is your engine standard ie no internal engine work?.

Yes, but it has a good amount of bolt ons (CAI,Header,Exhaust/no cat, flywheel, underdrive pulley,etc...) and it starts with 140hp/140 lb ft instead of the lame 115hp/124lbft.
anywayz, Talisman blew his other 3sfe so he put in a newer 3sfe, the one from the corona i think...it has a higher compression ratio, i think its 9.3:1 as opposed to our 9:1....

huh? That is what it is rated at stock. Those are the power figures straight from Toyota. I suppose the engine was from a Corona or it could have been from a Curren also. Anyway, they came with 140hp, 138lb ft stock. Compression is higher (I actually think it's 9.8:1 or 10:1), intake manifold design is different, and probably more agressive cams or something. Then I switched over all my old performance parts and added a couple new ones. So I really have no idea how much power it is making currently but I estimate like 160 crank or so. I will dyno it after I add my SAFC 2. The swap was very easy and pretty straightforward also. I should have the car back this weekend. I will post pics asap.
