there is no company thats make CAI for our engine. you can buy a HAI but why waste the money. thats what i did. at first i bought a weapon-r before i knew how easy it was to make my own. save your money and go to home depotand spend it there. they have all the air ducting, clamps, and anyhting else you might need to make the intake. i ended up using the weapon-r for the top half and then used air ducting to extend it to the front bumper.

Exactly what parts and tools do I need to make a cold air intake for my gen3 5sfe? Also what is that box thing that 88LE has in the middle of the intake piping?
Thanks

Tools - Sockets + ratchet, screwdriver, file, something to cut the pipe with (hacksaw, air die grinder, chop saw, etc..)

Parts - Piping, paint, sandpaper, and hose couplers.

Thats the AFM (air flow meter). Your car uses a MAP (manifold abosolute pressure) sensor so you don't have an AFM. The only thing you need to worry about is the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor.

the IAT is an easy install just drill a hole in the pipe u are making and voila!!! u're done!! make sure u clean up the hole u drill dont want any of those to get into ur engine... simple as that... also make sure it is small enough so that it doesnt leak any air through the engine... that way u only get air straight up from the filter...

hey 88 LE.. can you teach me how you made your intake. Where did you buy your parts? You helped me with my neons and now they work great. Made my own switch, taped it into the cigeratte lighter and presto. It also beats to the bass in the car. hehehe.. Well thanks for the help, and now I need your help with the intake. Thank you.

Checkout this site:

It'll answer most of your questions.

Piping - Performance autoparts store in town. Its a 2.5" OD (outer diameter) 180 degree mandrel bent u-pipe. The pipe is aluminized steel thats commonly used for exhaust tubing.

Hose couplers - Home Depot

High temp paint - Kragens. Its Dupli-Color high temp engine enamel. Comes in 500 degree and 1200 degree. I used the 500 degree stuff (its available in more colors then the 1200 degree stuff).

Their just rubber hose couplers for pvc pipes. You'll find them in the plumbing section.

They come in different sizes. The ones I used were 2" to 2". They fit tight onto 2.5" piping, so you just have to jam it on their.

Tognotti's Auto World in Sacramento, CA.

I doubt PepBoy's sells mandrel bent piping.

JC Whitney has what you need, but their a mail order company.

how much for everything?
Piping - $15

Couplers - About $4/ea at Home Depot. I think thats how much they were, I forget. I bought 4 of them.

Paint - About $4 from Kragen's.

And I already had all the other parts I needed.
