60,000 Mile Service question

My 98 Camry is up for the 60 k service. I have been shopping around and the dealers are asking $370-490 and that does not include the timing belt. Should I take it to the dealer or some of the general automotive stores like pep boys.

When is the timing belt change due?

Thanks in advance.

60k is when i do mine just for safty reasons. but i paid 500usd for jap auto to change the front crank seal cam seals and timing belt as well as the idlers. they dropped me off at home and they brought my car to me. now that's service. and they only use genuine parts. whenever i need something done that i don't want to do i drive down to florida and take it to them. yes they're that good.

Point made, NEVER take your car to a dealer unless it is under warrenty. They will ream you as hard as they can. It's what they do

DIY! But thats just my opinion.

SmokingTiresV6: I'm starting to wonder if there would be any threads in here if everyone actually DID search first. Seems like most everything has been covered at least once before.

Look for deals...and coupons. Thats what i do. Timing belt doesn't need changing till 90K miles. I changed my gen4 at 70K miles cus my cam is mostly city driven. As far as the basic 60K service goes - go find online coupons for such and see if local dealership will match them. I got my 60K serivce, new pads all around (plus resurfacign all 4 rotors) all for $400 at a dealership. (yes that includes tranny flush, EFI service, as well).
