Fiberglass Hood Insulation

On my VZV21 the black stuff that covers the fibreglass under the hood is torn up. It made some fibreglass fuse onto my shiny strut bar :/ I like the insulation, and am curious about what sort of fabic I could buy to cover the bare fibreglass.

I have the same problem on mine. I was considering taking it out, but thinking of the reasonswhy it was there, decided no to. On the oter hand, I don't live in Canada where the car was built.
I suspect this insulation may be protecting the hood paint.
My choice of material is a closed nit fiberglass cloth 1/2 ounce / ft2.
I am starting to look in boat repair shops and such.

the insulator is used as an acoustic treatment for underhood noise dampening, its unlikely it was designed to protect the paint. It costs manufacturers hundreds of thousands of dollars to D&D parts like this, protecting under hood paint could not be a justification for the substantial costs. i dont work for them but i dont believe toyota would do that

It's fibreglass because its cheaper to manufacture, it saves money on the production line because another process dont have to be added such as to trim the edges, plus its lightweight and performs well acoustically. but its is liable to sagging, you may find many retainers to prevent it from doin too much of this. but if you want to just take it out, nothing will happen except a bit more noise. my car didnt even come with one. better to ask toyota what fabric they recommend, as i assume materials used will need to pass heat and sagging requirements. good luck

You'll also notice its held up by plastic clips thingies. Incase theres ever an engine fire, those clips will melt and the insulation should fall and attempt smother the flames.

That's all well fine and good, but I just want to get something to cover up the yellow shit that's ugly. The yellow fibreglass is supposed to ahve the black layer, and part of that black layer has ripped off. I'm just wanting something that I can substiture as the black outer layer :/

No one knows what sort of material it is?

He's right. But it does help with noise insulation as well as helps protects the hood from high temperatures.
