Question about automatic windows?

I have a 1989 toyota camry with manual crank windows and was wondering if the wiring and all the harness are already pre-wired through the car for the automatic windows? Like is the wiring harnesses that you just plug in inside or behind the center pillar for the rear doors, and is the harness already there for the front doors? Does anyone know this for a fact, like have they tried it alreday? thanks

nope it's not there man... i took my door panel off once and noticed no wires. you should just get a universal kit it'll be easier than getting another harness of another camry and stuff.. too much trouble

I doubt it.

Theres a lot of stuff for the power windows. Its not as simple as you think it is.

I've torn into more than a few Camry's and have found the wiring harness is different between cars that have power windows and ones that don't. Also you will find there are differences with things like the lighted door locks, power mirrors, and valet lighting.

If you do decide to switch over to Power windows, I would suggest to find a parts Camry with the same interior color scheme with power windows already and pull all the doors along with the cabin wiring harness and transfer them to your car. Also note: For the back doors you will have to put holes in the back side of your pillar for the door wiring harnesses.

In essence you would pretty much have to remove most of your interior including the dash, door jams,& lower interior panels to get at the whole cabin harness. You would also need to make sure the donor car has the same type of climate controls (Push button or slider), unless you plan on replacing the heater/air cond. housing at the same time (good time to replace your heater core if you are worried about it going out).

Depending on how mechanicly inclined you are, plan to take from 1 to 3 days to do the transplant.

If you do this, keep in mind the harness CAN be removed without cutting any wires. Use a needle nose pliers to undo the clips that keep the harness secure, you should be able to remove most of them without breaking them. When in doubt, take pictures as you go so you have something to reference back to. (You might also be able to help someone else out later.)

thanks for the info es250nut. If its going to take all that work then im just going to leave it as is. The only reason i asked is because i baught a passenger side rear door from a junk yard because the one on my car has a rust hole about the size of a basketball, its awful. I went to many junk yards to find the same colored door with a manual crank and couldnt find the right combination of colors and crap so i just baught one with automatic windows. I asked cuz sticking out of the door is a harness fro the automatic windows and i just wanted to know if the plug for that harness was already wired through the car and all i had to do was drill a hole in the pillar in the center of the car and plug it in and that would be all. I guess now all i can do is switch out the window motor with the manual crank in the old door. Should i take off the panel in the car and check to see if i have any losse harness' or something of that sort just to see if i can do what i planed?

It would only take a few minutes to check. Just in case. The good thing is your crank window regulator and door panel should work just fine with your new door.
