Hi everyone, wondering if anyone knows of a compatible drop in from another year Camry or any other car, that I can put in the 02 V6 box? I can't stand the waiting for mods, the stock box has both a side and a bottom air intake tube,so it seems that a drop in would be enough?.

Thanks

Tony,

I was just like you and I couldn't wait either. What I did is measure the stock filter size and I sized it up on K&N's website. The filter I found and am using(part #33-2052) has the same dimensions but it sits taller than the stock filter so the airbox will not close properly. The stock airbox screws are too short to tighten down. They are M5 screws so you should get longer ones like I did.

If you notice, there are 2 ribs on the stock airbox. One on the top and the other at the bottom that spans the entire perimeter. With this K&N filter, it is not groved (it's for a Lexus I think) so it will raise the box that much higher. You can either A) leave it alone and use longer screws (what I did--temp fix), B)grind off the ribs from the airbox to make it fit better (still considering), C) grove the K&N filter on both sides (difficult to do since the rubber is only so thick and there's a metal rod running the length of the filter), or D) screw it and wait for K&N to make a replacement. Well, I couldn't wait so...

Good luck!

Thanx SE V6. I forgot you had told me that at one point, did you notice any difference,I know w/my IS 300, there wasn't seat of the pants, but it did move the maximum RPMs on shifts by a little bit. It made the 1-2 shift a little harder, I don't know if it was in my head?, but I was told the computer can read some extra air and not lose low end if it isn't too much.

Tony,

I did notice that the car is smoother all round and louder near the top. Top end (5-6K) does breath a little better. If there is a 5hp difference, most people cannot 'feel' it. The filter will help across the entire power band though.

The stock air filter is HORRIBLE! Commonly referred to as an egg crate. It will help no matter what. The reason why your 1-2 shift felt harder is b/c it was making more power and torque. In most cases you will actually gain in the low end b/c of more air+fuel=more power.

And yes, the hot wire sensor will meter more air. Remember, the S/C supposedly does not require any alteration to the fuel system as Toytota claims it will compensate.

All in all, if you can't wait do it b/c our cars need every bit of help it can get.
