Talking Dynoed update !

Alright guys, so i went to the dyno today for some runs and tuning and found that my settings on my Apexi S-AFC2 were pretty damn close lol.. anyways we did a couple runs and did some minor adjusting to bring the air fuel mixture to lower and mid 10% while on boost in higher RPM range. The car layed down 159.4hp and 162lbs. tq. to the wheels at around 11psi, the car with stock internals and the stock 9.5:1compression and 8psi layed down 151hp and 152lbs. tq. Some of you might think that im disapointed after all the engine work i did ? but actually im not surprised at all and actually im happy .

160hp to the wheels for an auto is about 200hp at the crank and if you guys remember Rippmods shop Camry 5spd at 11psi put down 191hp and 190lbs. tq ? with stiock internals and stock compression. I know i would lose some power with my 8.5:1 compression pistons but i would be able to run more boost safely but if i had the stock compression and 11psi i would probably be making 180hp to the wheels maybe ? but not as safe. We built the motor to handle more boost and handle it safely but im pretty sure i made some power by doing so too because if i had just lowered the compression and nothing else i think i would be making less than 150hp at the wheels with the low compression pistons.

Max torque came in at about 4500rpm and max power came in at6000rpm, air fuel ratio was perfect cruising at around 12 and 13% and when it hits boost it dumps lots of fuel bringing it down to low 10% range. Im pretty sure this just how the Mr3 Turbo MAP sensor works.. when it sees boost it tells the computer to dump fuel to keep it safe. At top end we did notice something weird, the power band would jump up and down at around 5500 - 6000rpm.. we think this might be spark misfiring or getting blown out. I was told to try lessen the gap on my sparkplugs and that should fix that which might help me make more power at top end, im probably gonna go one step colder plugs too. So anyways ! thats my update, its been 2600miles since we got the rebuilt motor up and things are running great, the car feels nuts when i take it up ! it pulls hard ! im gonna drive it around like this for a while, if i had a 5spd trans i probably wouldve boosted it up more but for now 11psi is nice trans is the next thing if and when it goes out ! let me know what you guys think and ill try answer any questions anyone has

Congrats!!, Personally I haven't brought my car to the dyno tuner yet, and it's still rough tuned, I feel a lot of pull when the boost is on. I'm planning on getting a S-AFC2 like you and just bring it to a tuner, it's so hard to tune.

Nevertheless, Your car brings new light into my mod list as, I too want to bring my car to 11psi one day and an auto to manual swap.

Again, congratz, keep up the great work. Now, I'm wandering what Wraith and Tony the Tiger are doing? Hum.. :-D Any dynos from them yet? hah.

Sorry guys ! here are couple of pictures of the sheets, i didnt get all of them printed so i dont have my final run. The one that says DYNORUN .002 shows the hp and the A\F ratio.. notice how the A\F drops below 10% on boost at around 5000rpm.. DYNORUN.004 shows the torque and hp, this one dropped down a little because we were playing with the mixture, notice on this one at around 6000rpm the line goes up and down, this is where we thing the sparkplugs are being blown out i shouldve got them all printed out.. my bad ! enjoy

my 151hp 152lbs. tq. run was on stock compression ratio which was 9.5:1, when i rebuilt the motor i dropped my compression ratio by 1 point which is now 8.5:1. By doing so you lose power and low end torque because theres less compression in chamber but you lower it to run more boost safely. Im sure if i had 11psi on stock compression i would be making closer to 180hp at the wheels, Steve meisner did the same thing when he was building up his motor and he dynoed it before and after the compression change and it showed a pretty good amount of power loss .

Great numbers! The lower compression did drop the numbers by quite a bit, but your blower has enough potential to boost more anyways to compensate for the lost

Any videos of the dyno run by any chance?

Thanks for the support Tony sorry man but no videos i went all by myself and i dont have a digital video BUT ! im suppose to meet up with a guy that posts on Teamsc3 to make a video.. just gotta wait till he has time.. trust me i wish i gave great updates like Tony then maybe more people would be interested in my project ehehe. I know that my engine can handle more boost but the thing thats holding me back from going 14 or 17psi is my tranny ;\ im sure if i ran that much boost and had a 5spd i could lay down 200+ ;D

lol no idea really.. im not sure if ima even bother building up an auto tranny because at the end its still.. automatic and i wont have control as i would with 5spd. Sure i want 5spd so i can boost more and make alot more power but also for launching and downshifting at will to get into the powerband at any time. I really want to find a donor car that i can just swap everything i need over to my car and that might cost $2000+ ?
