ok well this is how i look at it but i could be wrong. the rippmods is around 3k, yikes. plus building bottom end= go rob a bank.
for 3k though i could make my own homemadeturbo setup with manifold/turbo, everything for around 1.2k maybe. Then building the bottom end with importperformanceparts 5sfe engine kit with forged pistons/rodsbearings.
can anyone give their advice on the supercharger vs. the hmt setup ?
-Thanx!

There are ways around it, remapping the microsoft servers, stopping the service, using a firewall. But what I personally do is close my curtains, wrap my computer in tin foil and yell "BRING IT ON" over and over again. -Drunken_panda
the stage1 Rippmods SDS setup is for 5psi and goes for $3200 and you dont need to build bottom end for that setup but keep in mind this kit is totally complete including fuelpump, injectors, boost sensitive regulator and even electronics. The home made turbo kit project could come out less but are you including everything needed and will it be as safe as a kit that was already designed for the engine and tuning that was already done and tested ?. If you want turbo you should atleast check out Burien Toyota Performance's turbo kit for our 5Sfe's .. even their kit doesnt come with everything that the Rippmods SDS kit comes with but atleast it was designed, tuned and tested on the engine
well obviously the supercharger is going to be guaranteed to work, and some will say superchargers require less maintenance (you also wont have to build the kit yourself). on the other hand, turbos are much easier to upgrade, and better hp/$$ ratio imho.
personally i thought i was set on supercharging- but turbo seems to be the best bang-for-the-buck. i will say its all a matter of how much power you want to have out of your camry. each one of those setups has its own good/bad points to it.

Your not going to be able to build a custom turbo set-up for that cheap bro. Unless they make all the piping already. Otherwise everything is going to need to be made custom. Which as you can ask Wraith or Tony, will blow your wallet.
Superchargers are always a good by. Instant power with nice torque gains. But most of the ones made for Camrys a pretty weak. But the up side is you don't need to build your engine for them.
I'd go Supercharge anyday

First off, IMO the $3K Ripp is asking is fair. If I had a 4 banger and wanted hassle free boost, I wouldn't hesitate.
As for the age old dilema of SC vs Turbo...you'll never get a straight answer. There are too many variables to account for to be able to say that one is superior than the other. Obviously ecomonics plays a huge role, but there are other factors to consider aswell (availabiltiy, driveabilty, maintanence, supporting peripherals)
I personally love my SC. I got it for a great price. The pwr is linear and predictable and perfect for zipping around in the city. Easy install. Maintanence free - in stock trim. Essentially, it's street friendly and can be driven daily without any concerns. If I was looking for pure speed though, SC wouldn't be my first choice.

A budget turbo system is far cheaper...
If you get all the parts, such as complete fuel system upgrades (pump, injectors, lines), complete engine management, accessories, etc... it would be expensive.
But for a budget turbo setup, the key is to use all factory components. When I first had my turbo setup running, it only cost about $1200 USD to get the car running and lay down 268 WHP/TQ.
The setup consisted of a used CT-26, an intercooler, piping and fluid connections, an SAFC and a blow off valve. Fuel system was stock, and the only management was an Apexi SAFC.
Of course, the power wasn't enough for me so I went for a full blown turbo setup. That, in reality, gets expensive fast

The only problem with S/C is that we have Camrys. They don't make any decent Superchargers for Camrys.
Now if you look at a Company like KenneBell. They have superchargers that will give you 14psi across the board. 'Blowzilla' will boost a stock Mustang Cobra (290hp without the suprercharger) to 650hp at the wheels. They put down some insane power.
It's all about how makes it, and how it's made.
