Camry & Solara LoungeDiscussion area for every generation of Toyota's family car, the Toyota Camry. Lexus ES250/300 owners welcome! Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance and more.
I am new to this forum and I have a question to throw out to everyone...I am looking at 2002 Camrys,Avalons and Highlanders. I would like some feedback, pros and cons, on all 3 models. What is the best buy? How much will dealers deal on these models? Can one go wrong purchasing any of the three? Thanks for any input.
They target three very distinct markets. It just comes down to what you want. The psuedo-lexus (Avalon), the elemental family sedan (Camry), or a car-like SUV (Highlander).

I'm feeling SUPER, no, nothing bugs me;
Everything is SUPER when you're...
i guess from a financial standpoint, they have different price ranges too.
Also take into account the insurance rates for each vehicle.

on that note...i just got my license about 8 months ago (sad i know, im 20... gosh)...anyways, $150 a month for my gen2 camry v6! that's the bare minimum required by california! well, after 6 monts it dropped to $130/month, however i recently discovered that the camry is the #1 stolen car in america, and i live in a city that is #3 in the NATION for auto theft. lol, what a joke, huh? i get the worst of luck when it comes to this. a v6 gen2 for $400 (bought from a best friend) and my bare-minimum insurance costs the same as my mothers full-coverage for her 2004 ford focus hahaha.
you have to take into account your age too. even though ur 20 ur still in THE HIGHEST insurance rate bracket. 20 is still grouped with new drivers or teen drivers, so expect to pay alot. I think it goes down after you reach 25.
lol...i hope you aren't planning on financing either...or good heavens...leasing.
unless you can afford your new toy and your current car is about to take a dive...i say you just stick to it for a few more years untill you get a have decent driving record.
Go to Progresive.com or another online insurance where you can put in your stats and get quotes for each vehicle you plan on getting..
oh yeah...toyotas....you drive them til they die...err of old age and not of a premature engine failure....so why not..at least until you are 25 or have a decent job.
25 is what my insurance guy told me to wait for before getting a new car.

Well, Actually the financing was the reason my dad got a Toyota Camry. He was also looking at Accords and such and the 0% apr or whatever basically sold him.
And 25 I believe is where you enter a new bracket or whatever and your insurance rates drop.
It really does depend on what you are looking for. If you tell us, what your using this car for and what your requirments are, we can give you the most suitable choice for you.

Get a top end camry, XLE, V6, leather, alloy wheels, moon roof, etc. 30-40K miles. Try and push the dealer on price, see if you pick it up at basic model pricing. Make an offer, wait for dealer counter, make your final counter offer raise a smidgeon letting the dealer you know you have others to look at and not much more to spend. See how much the dealer moves to meet you, if not much ... walk, there's lots around to choose from.
You'll get 200K-250K miles out of it without substantial work, if you drive it reasonably.

ROFL on the posting year, buying a new one is a little different than a two or three year old one.
