Need to replace RH halfshaft.

any of u guys replaced ur passenger side CV axle? i need to replace mine, i replace the left one, it was pretty simple... the right one looks like a b!tch tho... looks like it goes through a motor mount... any tricks or simpler ways to do this than what it looks? my car is a 93 5sfe w/ an auto trans... any help would be much appreciated

yes... much simpler way... thats why the right side is a 2 piece... you need to replace the outer one just find an allen bit that fits the allen bolts. one that fits on a socket wrench... once you have that, its even EASIER than the left side.

step 1, jack up the right side, throw it on jack stands.
step 2, take off the wheel., screw 2 nuts back on to hold the rotor on the hub during the job.
step 3, remove the nut that holds the tie rod to the hub. (and that little pesky pin holding it there)
step 4, using a tie rod puller (or a large hammer might do the trick) release the tie rod from the hub.
step 5, remove the pin and bigass nut holding the axle into the hub.
step 6, remove the bottom 2 bolts and 1 nut holding the lower joint of the hub to the lower suspension.
*info* you can leave the hub and the top of the strut connected, it shouldnt get in your way too much.
step 7, get in there with a few long extensions and the allen socket and remove the 8 or 10 bolts that hold the outer axle to the inner axle.
step 8, remove the outer axle.

installation is the reverse of removal.

the allen bolts will come off... it should end up being like 2 feet long. just the outer piece that goes through the hub and one other shaft, then it should break apart with the allen bolts right before the motor mount/ bearing

You should replace the entire assemply if that is what you have. You probably got the remanufactured one. No need to disassemble your current one, dissemble the new one, then take a part from each and make another part. Doesn't make sense.

Not good to mix old with new =/

I've replaced CV's before, if you need further help you can PM me.

Also, the passenger side is like he said, easy, should slide right in. Another thing, that motor mount you saw isn't a motor mount. It is a retaining piece that holds the CV into place, like a middle brace. There is also a bolt that you must loosen and undo before you pull or push in/out the new and old CV's.

its actually the rear main motor mount. it also acts as a retainer by housing the axle bearing. its a bitch to get the axle out of there, especially if the car is older and shit is all rusted up. there is a C clip in there holding the bearing in, but its usually rusted in. Also, there is one bolt on the bottom of the mount, which also provides suport for the bearing. Ive removed an axle from the rear motor mount 4 times i believe... it SUCKS! there is so much bashing with a sledge hammer and banging on the ground...its just bad... the allen bolt way is the way to go, thats what i did on my latest 3vz engine replacement

I'm in the process of doing the passenger side of my V6 right now, and like Zoni said, it's a bitch; especially with no lift. 5 days and I still am working on it. It's not rusted that I can see, and it was out about 8 months ago, which I thought would make this alot easier, but NOT! It's coming out though, as it has moved partially out of the transmission. I had a mechanic do a horrible job on replacing the transmission; he didn't replace the oil seal on the right side, and hence why I'm pulling the axle out now. It's leaking terribly, so I have to do it. It's really cold outside as well, which makes it alot harder. Bang, bang, bang is what it amounts to, and hopefully today it will come the rest of the way out.

When you put the axle back in apply antiseize compound to the outer bearing and inner bearing mount.

That's exactly what I'm gonna do so that it isn't so damn hard to get out in case of future issues. But the problem is definitely getting the damn thing out of the housing to make it move. I've banged and banged, and the only thing that has moved is the cover over the oil seal. I thought that the axle had moved, but it has not. DAMN!! I'm in Wisconsin, and it's cold as hell outside, and windy to top it off. I"ve used tons of penetrant, but to no avail. I don't have access to a lift, so the car really isn't high enough to take advantage of any leverage at all. The transmission was replaced with a boneyard one by someone 'WHO" I thought was a friend, but obviously not if he didn't replace that oil seal, so here I am trying to get this damn axle out to replace it. My toes are freezing as well as my hands. If I get the 4 bolts out of the housing that are attached to the engine, will that allow me to be able to just tap that axle back enough to remove and replace the seal? If this don't work, hell... I'm gonna have to put this mess back together, and have it towed and done by a shop, and I really don't want to spend $200-300 just to replace a $7 seal. Any ideas anyone?

Another question: wouldn't I see the clip? I have stuck my hand up there in the bearing, and feel nothing. Don't see nothing. Wouldn't I be able to see it?
