clutch master cylinder

I need some help. I am loosing clutch pedal pressure. The pedal will go to the floor and stay there. I tried replacing the master and the slave cylinder, but I think that I have a bad new master. When I try pumping the system to bleed it out the fluid just pumps up in the resivor. I can't get pressure to build even with constant pumping. The fluid just pumps back up in the master. Is this supposed to happen? What is going on? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!!

Did you bleed the lines? Air in the lines could cause that kind of problem.

I bled the lines several times last night. I even used a vacum pump to pull the fluid throught the system. I called a friend who works at a chevy dealer, and he told me to gravity bleed it and try it again. which we did, and the same thing happened.

Is there any chance that the accumilator might have gone bad? The slave cylinder will pump, but it will push out and then compress right back without the pedal being let up.

The clutch master cylinder is not an easy part to bleed. Best way I found to do it is to "pump" (press your finger several times) on the master cylinder cap and it works not too bad.
Where does the part you bought come from ? New one ? Then I'd go and ask the dealer. If it is a used one there chances yours is already dead : such a part being exposed to aire for perhaps several years won't like that, it's just like brake master cylinders.

The part that I purchased came from Advance auto. It's like an autozone.

I'm not familiar with the layout on your car, but even in your state the pedal should not stay down. Is there no return spring?
Also, usually when bubbles are coming into the resvr, something is often hooked up backwards.

I know it is not an easy thing to bleed this stuff and that the pedal will tend to go to the floor... What you can do is just leave the pedalon its high position and just bleed the way I told you, it should be working...

If fluid level rises as pedal is depressed, master cyl center valve seal is faulty.
