hi Guys,

I just got new wheels 17x7 ,40mm for 99 camry

When I go to tirerack to search the tires for them they say 215/45-17 will be proper fit.

But some guys previously in forums said that
225/45-17 will have a proper fit ?

Iam confused ? Whats the difference ?

225/45-17 is a little wider then 215/45-17.

The first number is the width of the tire.

2nd number is the aspect ratio of the tire. Its a percentage of the first number. So 225/45-17 would be 45% of 225.

3rd number is the diameter of the tire.

I say 215-45-17 since your rim is 7".

I got this email from Tirerack rep:-

********
We know that the 215/45-17 will properly fit your vehicle on a 17x7 wheel and
this is why it is a recommended fit. There are several reasons we do not
recommend the 225/45-17. A 225 will fit on a 7" wheel, but that is the
minimum. The tire bead will definately be sqeezed in creating a narrow base
for the tire. Second, we are concerned that a 225 might rub the fender.
Since we guarantee that our fitments will be trouble-free this is why will do
not recommend the wider size.
