half shaft/axle??? stuppid question

hey everyone. This might make me look stupid but here it goes. whats the difference between a axle and a half shaft. The passenger side axle is ticking especially on turns so I looked at kragen. they offer axles and half shafts so i dont know what to get. Can someone englighten me?

half shaft is what you want to get. As for the difference, I'm speculating that half shafts go 1/4 the way to the center of the car, and full shafts go the full way.

Front wheel drive axles are usually referred to as "halfshafts" because, the axle or "shaft" is not one solid piece all the way through the car, its broken in "half" by the transmission... hence "halfshaft"
