which engine mount?

hey guys, which engine mount is it most likely to be when the engine moves upward when you press the brake pedal and the gas pedal and you let go the clutch all at the same time? i think it would be the dogmount. Or could it be the rear back mount?

i say front mount if your moving foward. also check your dog bone as well.

well it doesn't move forward, it just move upward (toward the hood).

Its either the dog mount or the front mount (in the vacinity of the exhaust manifold). It should be pretty obvious if the dogbone is broken as there would be tears and the like. Check the top bolt of the front engine mount, maybe the bolt got stripped and popped out, or its just torn up.

well it jumps when your using a gear 1-5th that would be front and when you use your reverse gear it would jump then it would be the back mount.

1. The dog Bone- Stops the motor from moving forward and backwards from driving torque, aka flooring it in drive or reverse.
Usually wears on the piece closest to the front of the car, not all the time though.

2. Front Lower Mount- Holds the motor down on the sub frame and stops the motor from moving up. Usually most noticeable in a thud thunking when letting off of the gas at higher speeds. It is Hydraulic and rubber. The rubber usually goes, rare occurrence that it leaks, if it does it will be the color of motor oil.

3. Rear Lower mount- Stops the motor from slamming back down from drive torque, and is the only mount stressed in reverse, so if your reverse feels laggy, that’s your mount. As you can see it’s just the bushing you need to buy. If the main bolt through it has worn out the washer or cast mount you will need to buy the washer or the cast mount.

4. Transmission Mount- This mount takes torque in every possible situation, if you are feeling a thud at mostly all speeds mainly gears beyond 1st and usually second, real bad in over drive, that’s your mount.

5. The notorious Engine moving control Rod- This is a shock. Even with perfect mounts your motor will move some, mounts are only rubber. This piece makes the movement firm, when the motor moves, this shock will bring the motor back down soft.
This piece goes bad and when it does it will get real loose, unbolt it and if you can move it up and down easy, its shot, and YES, IT DOES HAVE FLUID IN IT. Usually mistaken for antifreeze as it is green; if this happens it’s obviously shot.

whoa, full of great information.... but what could it mean if the whole engine start to shake right after the clutch has been engaged on 1st gear?

My front engine mount's top bolt is so tight. I used a breaker bar attached to an extension, and it still won't come loose. Any suggestions?

i'd say spray some wd-40 or other penetrating fluid and let it sit.

when i did mine, the bolt was also really tight.....i used the fluid...let it soak a bit and i used two extenstions for my wrench to bring it up to my comfort zone for more leverage. And i basically used extreme elbow grease to finesse the stupid thing loose. if you want more leverage...get a metal pipe and fit it to the end of your wrench (if that's what you meant by the breaker bar..goood....ummm..i don' t know what that is)


oh and just so it was easier for me...the other three bolts...i tackeld them from underneath...took of the car...unscrewed that plastic shield and i was able to reach it.

If you engine shakes for any of the gears, it's an engine mount. If you are still unsure what mount it is, grab a friend and tell him to watch each of the mounts to see if they have alot of play.
