My 92 camry 4 cylender has no spark. With all the wires off the coil. I read 26,000 ohms to Chasis ground. Shouldn't this be infinity or a lot closer to it than 26,000 ohms? Could this be the problem? Any help is geatly appreciated!
check injection fuse, check timing belt : is it turning ? Are cams turning ? Rotor ?
As for electrical testing I don't really know I don't have the impression this is wrong but perhaps other people here could confirm that ...
All fuses in fuse box are OK. The engine turns over well. The rotor turns, so the timing belt is OK. Anybody else know about what the correct resistance should be from the secondary side of the coil (at the rotor shaft) to ground?
Also, how does the distributor containing the coil come off. I see just one bolt which goes through a slot (for adjusting the timing?). There must be someting else holding it in place?
Does the engine have to be turning over (by starter motor) for the ignitor to be turning the 12 volts to the primay of the coil on and off.
I am used to the good old days (i.e., plugs, points, condenser). This is my first experience with the more modern ignition systems.

No there are two of these bolts and then it comes off that's it. Are you sure that the rotor and distributor cap are still ok ?
Will let you know, Nico. The tow truck will be here in one hour and it gets worked on tomorrow. I wish I did have more time to work on it. I took yesterday off from work and need to get back to work today AND my wife needs the car. I used to be an electronic technician in the navy and always enjoyed troubleshooting. That was in the days of vacuum tubes! things have changed a lot!
Nico,
I did say I would get back and let you know what was wrong. They replaced the entire distributor with coil in it (ignitor was not in it) and that fixed it. Wish i could be more specific as to the actual cause of the problem. Thanks for your help with it.

its a good think you arent thinking about distributorless ignition system here that'd prolly be a little too modern for you too...
