i got my car back last night...and everything seemed fine...smoke is still there but oh well...i have another problem(started before i took my car in

when under heavy acceleration...not even that heavy...just heavier than grandma's drive...the car starts to go then it somewhat stalls...it doesnt shut off or anything...it just seems to stall and the revs go down and it stutters...then the car starts to go again...after turning it happened when i went to accelerate out of the turn...so at a stop sign i punched it a little bit(not alot so i wudnt cause any further damage) and it started got to like 5 mph and about 1500 rpm...STUTTERED...started again 15-20mph and and 3500-4000 rpm... STUTTERED...and i just completely let off the gas this time....

has anybody heard of something like this before....could a hose be disconnected or something???

i think i may have talked about this in another thread before so sorry but i really need the help...

im not sure but could it be an oil pump related issue?

at the mechanic they put in:

engine restore

new oil filter

new air filter

new front pads

if that helps any...

fuel injector/spark plugs

my moms 2002 benz ml320 has been having the problem with it, and the dumb people at the dealership (who are ford specialists, not mercedes benz mechanics) sometimes in the cold morning, it will stall under idle rpm's.... and then want to give out, flooring it doesnt help.

The problem is caused by the fact that the engine is being flooded, due to the fact the gas is not being burned fast or efficiently enough. Spark or not enough air usually. The air filter is new so that should be covered, unless it is something mechanical.

Don't ignore the smoke!

It could be related. Check your plugs and change them if it has been awhile. They may be fouled by the leak. It could be a timing problem as well. Close enough for normal driving, but just enough out when it comes to earning it's keep.

Check ignition coil. Its most likely a spark problem.

If it's not ignition/spark related, and the fuel is fine, check all your vacuum hoses. They can cause the same jerkyness under acceleration.

it can be any number of problems
as simple as bad fuel if ur low on fuel go throw some premium in it
if that doesnt help check ur battery terminals and connections to starter as well as connectors near alternator
a loose electrical could caues stuttering
spark plugs are also another option, u can easily check all ur plugs and check for damage i.e. overly coated in black soot, cracked plugs, plugs that are gapped wrong

id try the simple things first
1. bad gas
2. electrical connectors
3. spark plugs

if none of the above fixes the prob of is the prob take it to the dealer..DO NOT get it fixed there..just get it checked out ask a service guy to take a drive with you

believe it or not the mechs at Toyota have to be certified Toyota techs..they are mechanics but have taken courses dealing specifically with Toyota engines...i should stress SHOULD BE certified so just pay a nominal fee to get a better idea instead of taking it to someone who cant figure out whats wrong and u spend 100's on parts that didnt need to be replaced

I'm guessing this:
1. Try higher octane gas..as see if it helps
2. your plugs+wires need replacement
3. you have carbon buildup, get that cleaned.

I agree. its probably a vacuum problem. or PCV valve. otherwise, the fuel pump may be going, the timing may be off. nothing else.

thanks for all the input...

its most likely not the gas...i use 89 octane

timing belt was replaced between 10,000-15,000 miles ago

i visually inspected the vacuum hoses the other day before it went in the shop...everything seemed normal

it is most likely a spark problem...how do i check the plugs?

Take them out, they should be a brown to gray color. I forget the gap that the plugs should use (someone else fill that in?).

If the plugs have obvious damage like cracks, bends, build-up, any colors not being brown to gray, post here and we'll tell you what more than likely caused it.

I live in Ottawa, Canada. I own a lowered 2000Camry (4th gen?? or 5th???) on 18's with a rebuilt engine and a ripp mods 4-2-1 header (my girlfriend bought for me). I noticed the exact same problem with my ride. Sound system, guages, lights, accs., all work. Engine light flickers on and off and what seems like the power to the ecu, main and distributor is lost and regained almost instantly. I even hooked up an on-board computer under driver's dash. When the engine light flickered, the supply cable lost power and the diagnostic computer restarted.

I could have had a poor battery ground. I think the relay(s) may be blown.

Please help me...

What do you need our help with? It looks like you just said what your problem was.

1) Make sure the ECU is getting a constant 12v power supply
2) Splice a new ground from the ECU to the body under the passanger kick panel

did you recently wash your engine bay?
