I've been asked a few times on how to "operate" on indiglos gauges, particularly when one dial (i.e speedo gauge) goes out. I thought some other people might benefit from this as well. Camry300RR?

First check to see that it is actually the gauge that doesn't work, not the controller. Connect the gauge to another connector that is working and make sure the gauge doesn't work. If it does work, then I would assume it's the controller or the wiring from the controller. To me, it would not make sense that the controller would burn out and only affect one gauge...so most likely it's the gauge. Try using a voltmeter and testing the connector to the bad gauge, I don't think it's 12 volts, you can compare it to the other connectors.

The reason why a single gauge could fail to work is because it's not receiving any power. On my speedo gauge, I noticed there was a hairline crack in the upper portion that bends on the gauge...this is where the wires connect into. I took my indiglos out a lot because they kept on bubbling up, I guess indiglos are made for wear and tear. The positive and negative goes into the gauge and then connects to some embedded metal coating, like on a circuit board (sorry, don't know the proper names). Anyway, it looks like flat metal rail road tracks and this gives power to the gauge. If you look carefully, you'll probably notice a hairline crack in this circuit.

What you need to do is either bypass this crack or seal it with some liquid solder from Home Depot. I bypassed it by cutting the wires, taking a sewing needle and poking a hole in the clear plastic cover just above the tracks. Then I just fed the bare wires through which should obviously touch the tracks. Tape it up so that the postive and negative don't touch and put the gauges back on. This should work...if it doesn't, try it again. I don't see indiglos burning out that easily.

Good luck!

henry,
when you said yours were bubbling up, were they just coming up because they weren't taped down well? or was the laminate peeling (like Phi's, who's gauges I peeped in December). If the laminate was bubbling, did you fix it and how?
thanks
Jon

Unlike my situation, I think Henry's popped up due to lack of taping on the back.

As for the laminate peeling, I'm prolly just gonna try and strip it off carefully, trying not to peel off the numbers in the process. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out. It looks like Guinea worms infested my gauges and left a trail behind. It keeps getting worse as time goes by. Sooo unsightly

Both. My indiglos have been through hell and back.... The laminate came loose around the RPM needle, I had to actually trim it. On the coolant temp side, it's like what Phi said...some worm got in there and made a nice path. Haven't fixed it yet, but if I do, I'll probably just pull it down and glue it down on the edge.

As for bubbling, I initially used a cheap double sided tape...when that bubbled up, I was too lazy to take it off and then I just stuck on some extra strength double sided tape on top of the existing tape! Been working fine for about a year so far.

And let's not forget about the 1 hour operation above....
