Unhappy Rough and shaky Camry

I have 96 Toyota camry 4 cyl with 145K. I bought it used some one and a half years back. It runs smooth, but i have one problem with it. Whenever i drive it for long distance say for 100 miles or more it becomes rough when i stop at a signal and the engine rpm goes up and down and then it stops. It starts when i turn in the key again but again it is rough. The engine seems to shake at the time when it is rough. If at that time i drive it without stopping anywhere, it runs fine, but it is rough again when i stop. If i leave my car stopped for a while (20-30 mins), it operates normally. Can anyone please help me with this problem.

It could be a vacuum leak, but it wouldn't hurt to check the plugs and filter.
It could be worse, but start with the easy stuff.

Thanks for the input. One of my friend suggested to change the PCV which i haven't change since i bought the car. I am not sure whether it would help.

Wait. Mine does that. Whenever I run it hard for a little while and come to a complete stop it acts like it's going to cut off and the RPMs go really low. It doesn't shut off though.

It could be the EGR valve as well.

I face the problem whether or not AC is on or not on. I will first try with changing PCV valve (it is costing $15 at dealer), then i will move to changing EGR if it does'nt work. Checking Vaccum leaks is costing $75 at delaer which i will try at the last. Thanks for so many suggestions. Any idea where i can get cheap EGR valve ?

Thanks again... I will update this post with whatever happens after I go to the dealer.

Hey, stay away from the dealers in Richmond Va, esp one on midlothian turnpike, they lie and steal!! There's a place on brook rd called Vidlers, this guy recently did some work on my daughters camry (99) and my camry(96), seemed honest, and knowledgable , reasonable too! Kinda sounds to me like ya need a good tune up and maybe your injectors cleaned, It can get expensive throwing parts at a problem when your not sure what the problem is , I've done that before (more than once) Good luck!

Ii have taken my car to 2-3 shops and explained my problem, but they were not able to do anything saying that they could not reproduce the problem. The problem that i faces does not happen often, only sometimes otherwise my car runs smooth. I have already done work on fuel injectors from Mrchant's. Tune up is one thing that i was also thinking of getting done.
