water pump replaced, won't start

I replaced the water pump, and timing belt. The haynes manual says "Do not rotate the crank pulley counterclockwise", but I did about 1/2 rotation before deciding to check again on the direction.
I have been told that it should not be a problem, but I just finished putting it back together, and the motor spins freely. I turned it by hand first, to make sure I didn't bend valves.

My repair manual offers no help..

Any help appreciated.

Brian
