I drive a 1999 Camry CE with 50,000 miles on it. My car battery died yesterday. So I got it replaced at a Unocal76 gas station (they put in an Interstate Battery after doing some voltage readings on the battery and the alternator). Anyhow, after the new battery was in place, the car worked fine as did the lights and AC. BUT, my radio and cassette player won’t turn on now, no matter what I do (ie put in a cassette, push the power button). The mechanic at the Unocal76 station says there is some code I need to put in to get it to work. I browsed through the owners manual (in front of him) but I could not find any. Plus, I have no clue how I would put in such a code were I to find it (may pushing the channel button numbers?). Anyone else ever have such a problem with a Toyota or any other car after replacing the battery? Anyone know what I can do to get my radio/cassette player to work again? I would genuinely appreciate your input and advice. Thanks a million!

yea.... these codes R security codes for your deck... when you purchase the car @ the dealer... they should give you the security # for your deck... so no one can use it 'til you put in the codes....

you better find it.... or else if you go back to the dealer.... they will charge you around $50 just to get your #.....

good luck...

Thanks for getting back to me so fast! I appreciate it.

Just one quick question: I am someone who is really good with paper work and remembering details but I can't for the life of me remember the dealership ever giving me a security code for the stereo when I purchased the car. Is the security code written on a piece of paper, sales receipt or is it handed to you by the salesperson after you buy the car? Where should I look?

But once again, thank you very much for your earlier help!
