Ratko has done a how to already for the swap on his V6. However, the ECU wasn't liking it and I don't think he has resovled the problem yet. Maybe he can shed some light on this.

As for the I4, the ECU is not as complex and hence there were no problems for that on my swap.

In USD, about $1000. It could more or less, depending on how complete the donor car is.

Yes, the swap overall was a success, however my check engine light is still on and our local mech Basil couldn't find a solution.

Im most likely going to visit Yoshio and see what he can do to solve it. From what Ive heard about him, I have faith in his expertise.

The details of my swap are at http://www.tt-cc.com/ratko/swap

Alex, what is needed on an I4 is the same as a V6. They include brake pedal, clutch pedal with assembly, clutch master and slave cylinders, flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate, the transmission case itself, shifter and bracket, shifter cables, release bearing. Look them up the major items on http://www.car-part.com and if you are lucky, there will be a junkyard around you with donor car still in tack for the interior and misc stuff. Most junkyards will just take the valueable stuff (i.e. tranny and engine) and just trash the rest of the car.

Doing such a swap is very complicated. Buy the Toyota microfiche off ebay and get a Haynes manual. I spent countless hours researching with these resources before going ahead. I had to convince my trusted mechanic (very important!!) it could be done and we walked him through the steps before we even got started. You have to be able to visualize everything before you start. In addition, I had to research all the part numbers to order the parts.

Even with such extensive preparations, we ran into small glitches. So my best advice is get a mental understand before you start.

Just to add to what I said earlier, a transmission swap is not like installing an intake. A "how to" will only take you so far. People can point you in the right direction, like Humphrey did for me (thanks!!), but you have to know what you are doing. Sure, Ratko and I can post all sorts of pictures and list all the parts we bought, but relying on that will only take away the educational component that is necessary to pull off a major operation such as a tranny swap.

The other option is just to pay your mechanic to track eveything down and install eveything for you and presto!! If that's the type of car owner you want to be, I offer no advice.

hhaha your funny jeff. did you also need the inner axle? but yeah all i need are the basics and stuff like that, just an overview of what is needed and what to change out and i can do it with a couple of my friends. they swap engines, trannies and stuff all the time from hondas. so thats no problem with us for the know how. but also the salvage yard whre i am at said he had all the parts i needed and everything from shift linkage to the pedals to the tranny except the clutch flywheel and pressure plate for 650. thats usdollar. so it will be cheap for me probably a total of 1000 max. hopefully my family finds our store soon so i can start making the money. haha then get wheels to match my body then do that swap.

i saw my name somewhere here.. hehehe no probs jeff anytime...

tranny swap is not hard it just needs a lot of work looking for the parts as far as when i did mine that's the most labor intensive to do finding the parts all in all my friend did my swap in about 6 hours in his house so no biggie ehheeh oh yeah we had to save up and buy ourselves a portable hoist as well ... that's a "MUST" if u doin the install ur self... and wiring is simple as well.. my fav is the R lights up in the dash when u go reverse.. that is just plain my favorite in the whole swap besides having the 5spd... hehehe ....

ratko i talked to a friend here he told me ur check engine light may just need to be reset... try doing that if it helps... im not sure how the v6 works but according to him if that's ur only prob try it out... good luck man... and i messaged u regarding our tails.. the pricing is for brand new ones not sure if u still wanna go through with it.. doing it ourselves might be way too pricey im thinkin of just asking wraith cos he told me last time he can get those for us... let me know what u think...

humpty
