Hi, I was wondering if it is better to drive with the overdrive button off? Do I save more gas that way? I've been driving with the overdrive button on since I got my Camry in Feb. Does anybody else drive with this button off??

the only real time that you would want to shut it off is if you are towing something or are going in the mountains where your trani is shifting up and down all the time,
Most of the people on this forum seem to treat this option like it was a plague, that will ultimately destroy the tranny. I've been using it for many years and have never had a problem.
I like to treat it for what it was designed to do. Driving all the time with it on, is like driving around in fifth with a manual. You may not notice it, but if your in town and constantly driving around at less than 1500 RPM, you're actually doing more harm to the drive train. It is harder on gas as well. The engine is designed to be more efficient up around the 2500-3000 RPM range.
it saves you gas cuz your rpm's wont be as high....with overdrive off, the rpms will be the higher rpms.. but yea on the freeway, just have it on, city driving with overdrive on isnt so bad either but its ur choice
Overdrive on, means you have 4 gears. and the tranny is programmed for fuel economy (inless you have a gen3 camry, you get a PWR button, which makes the gears stay in the gear longest).... overdrive off, means if you're going up hill on the freeway, and dont need to lose speed, you hit the over drive button, it lows it to 3rd gear..... i think if you had it in 3rd gear even, it will lower it to 2nd gear or something.
