cable release for gas door

Ok, so the cable release for my gas door is stuck in the open position on my 2002 camry. This has happened before, and has fixed itself with just wiggling the door release handle under the seat. I've decided that those instances were just lucky, because that solution is not working now. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what did you do to fix it?
Thanks to all for your help.

Have you tried lubricating the cable? The gas door end of the relese mechinism is held in by a nut. If you pop your trunk, remove the inner trim from around the wheel well and reach up into where your gas relese is you can undo the nut and pull the relese catch out. Then you can spray some lube into the cable sheath. You might have someone work the lever while you do this. Your catch might also be gunked up, you can clean it while you have it out.

I went ahead and ordered a cable sub assembly after the local dealer determined that my cable was damaged/broken. I don't suppose anyone has a repair manual for a gen 5 camry that explains how to install the cable assy without damaging fasteners and whatnot that are holding down the carpet? The part number for the cable sub assy is 77035-AA030.
Thanks to anyone who decides to help me out.
