i have a 92gen3 cam. i am almost finished with my "cosmetic" mods and audio system. Now i want to improve performance on this old 4 banger! From what i've heard the gen3 4 cyclinder put out about 110-120hp stock, frankly thats not enough for me. Is it worth putting in a new exhaust and intake for just a few hps, or should i turbo charge it?! What are my options with the turbo, and what are some of your experiences??(no nitrous)
--thanks,

Im in the same boat as you, and I could use some advice as well. Many have told me that simply an intake and exhaust would do the trick, adding about 20 HP to the car. This is something I definitely have to get because of the amount of highway driving I do (I have the 96 CE).
i am in the exact same situation as both you guys, but i'm thinking of getting an intake from here. If you guys know of a better place please tell me. http://www.procarparts.com/store/displaydetails.cfm?pid=AI-TYT-9296CAMY
the Procarparts.com site is where I got my intake from. Man it sounds good. I have a standard transmission, so once I hit 3,000 rpm it gets loud. Almost like I supercharged it. But not one of those annoying sounds, its just right. Performance wise its pretty good. Go for it.
well...if ur gonna turbo it... eventually u should get a sports exhaust and do all those standard mods aswell(intake, headers).
I reckon do the cheap mods first (exhaust, intake, headers) so u'll get it sounding good... plus u'll get up to a 30% increase in HP by doin all that... AND THAT AINT BAD for under a grand.

Just one more thing about http://www.procarparts.com... Didn't you see 'V4' which stands for the type of engine in our Camry's? If they don't know that there's no such thing as 'V4 Camry' how can they make something what really can improve your performance? I don't trust any of those guys-all they need is money (well, you can't blame 'em), once you buy the thing-they don't want to hear anything about you..I have had bad experience with one of the Internet performance parts seller, since that I'd never buy anything from them. My friend makes his own CAI, it looks like sh!t
but at least it works without cutting your low end..think about that when you pay your money to people who don't care what's going to happen with your car tomorrow.
P.S. I expressed my own opinion and it's not about http://www.procarparts.com I've never heard anything bad or good about those guys..don't want to confuse anyone
Hey! This is the exact thing I wanted to ask. I was looking for something that would give me something to go against those V6 Accords!! I've already got an intake system and exhaust. No headers though, no molla for that yet!
I've heard people say that intake and exhaust give you like 15 hps, but i personally think it isn't so, some people also told me so. I think headers make a bigger, noticable difference. I'm not sure if making those mods made any difference cuz I don't drive my Camry like i used to, before these mods
Just for my information though, i'm looking for some HP gain parts. Links are of great help.
Thanks!!

HEY, help us out guys!
j/k, need mo' info on supercharger,
-what kind of hp increase would i get from changing my ignition, to performance? is it real worth putting in any intake if it will decrease my hp in the low rpm range??will it get rid of that annoying 4cyclinder noise?
thanks gen 3 i4

Hi guys I dont think putting and intake and some headers with and exhaust will give you more then 20hp max.Best thing you can do is build your own turbo system and upgrade your internals. There is not miracle mods that will give you enough HP to realy feel the power change. If you guys need help with building a good turbo system tell me and I will help you out to the best of my capacity.Remember this will cost more then all the mods available for your I4 on the market now but you will have much more power gains.

ok so how do you make your our turbo kit?
what about turbo lag, i heard super charging was much better? thanks

I would make my own kit by getting a used t3 turbo or around the same size and then build around that. With a nice 3sgte manifold and some custom return lines the kit is already half done. What you would need next is a Blow-off/Pop-off valve and a custom down pipe. The injectors and map sensor would be next on my list and then all you have are minor parts like a oil pan/gaskets and nuts bolts and other small stuff.A nice sized smaller turbo will have barely any lag since it will spool like at 2000rpm depending on the size it is.

Why does everyone think superchargers are better then turbos?
Turbo lag can be kept to a minimum if you use the right size turbo for your application. Now if you have that ricer mentality and shove the biggest turbo you can into your car of course its gonna lag, it'll probably never spool either.
You compare the compressor maps for a turbo and a supercharger and you tell me which one is more efficient.
Its your choice, but i'll take a turbo over a supercharger anyday.

ino turbos obviously r better performance wise... but for cost and engine wear are superchargers better?
cuz i've been looking at pricing and stuff... superchargers seem to be cheaper.
tuboes require intercoolers and stuff like that aswell...
