UK Might be getting IS300 rims- have some ?'s

so...i might be getting some IS300 rims from Shawn...im pretty sure theyre the same bolt pattern (113.4) as my camry, but, i was wondering about one specific thing...the front wheels are 7 inches wide and the rears are 7.5 inches wide...the front tires are 215/40/17 and the rears 225/40/17....my question is...my friend told me that 40 is usually too thin of a tire and that i might have a bigger gap than i currently have with my stock steelies...i wont be able to get struts and lowering springs for like a year or two from now...is this tru???...how bad is it gonna be???...and it is worth it, or should i look for some different wheels???

thanks

dont worry, there is going to be a big gap there is if your gunna but any after market rim that is bigger then stock. it dosent look that bad i put 17's on mine there is a big gap but i am not worried, its taking me a while to come up with money for springs and struts but with the rims on it shows me how much of a drop i need... dont worry about it to much if you like the rims then get them, you can always do a drop later

you'l be fine the width is correct for height of the side wall now if it was 195 or 205 40 17 then you'd be running too small a tire. but it is correct. so no worries i checked the specs

it really doesn't matter what kinda 17's you get or what not, unless you get super big sidewalls, which i think would look bad anyways, you are going to have a big gap until you drop the ride. That is just hte nature of wheels/tires ratio maintaining stock, even when you get 18/19 inch wheels, you will notive gap without drop, it is just less

just out of curiosity,
what is the stock tire size of a gen 3 i4 camry?
Ofcourse the size is different than a v6
but then is the overall diameter (wheel + tire) the same on both trims??

Wider tires in the rear, on a front wheel drive?
Sounds a little bit unsettling, changing the balance of the car.
I would think that through.
225/40 x R17 is a tight fit in the rear.
Also Bolt pattern is 5 X 114.3,
but we know what you mean't.

yea that does seem wierd. Hey heres a thought how about you run the wider tires in front. I too wanted IS rims but thinking twice due the wider rear wheels.

Gen 3 I4
Standard 195/70-14
Optional 205/65-15

Gen 3 V6
Standard 205/65-15

225/40-17 is taller than a 215/40-17 it might look a little funny having taller tires in the front.

If his Camry had:

Standard tires 195/70-14 Diameter 24.7"
Optional tires 205/65-15 Diameter 25.5"

The new tires

215/40-17 Diameter 23.8"
225/40-17 Diameter 24.1"

Speedo could be off as little as 2.7% or as much as 6.7% which is equal to running 56 mph while your speedo says 60 mph.

Yep, a 45 series tire on 17" rims gets it a little closer. Depending on his factory tires it could be a 50 series tire is what he needs on a 17" rim.

Sorry guys, I'm just on a tire thing this morning.

What he said...from what i know...they are all 17*7 and 45 series is what i'd go with personally...but then it depends on how sweet of a deal you get!

the difference is .1 of an inch. try it for yourself...
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
go there and put in the specs for 215/40/17 and then 225/40/17

it will say specifically how different they are.

really guys, its not good to put info on these boards if you have no clue what the fuck you are talking about.

i say... dont post unless you know the right answer.

i have 225/45/17 all the way around right now on my camry and it rocks.. i might be able to go to 225/50/17 but it would be close because my car is WAY lowered... if it were lowered with eibach, whiteline or h&r, or stock, 225/50/17 would be PERFECT. but i have sprint, and they are mad low, especially in the front because i cut 1.5 coils off.
