The Camry and the Altima

Just got my wife an '02 Altima 2.5S, to replace the minivan she totaled. What a sputtering rattle trap compared to my '03 Camry SE!!!

I'm having to get up to speed on the Altima forum. Wish I could have found a Camry to fit my wife's short stature, but such don't exist.

Admittedly the Altima has many more mods available on the aftermarket. A strut brace and an K&N box filter are on their way to help the Altima some. But when I drive my tight beauty around with its manual tranny, I fall in love with my Camry all over again!

Cool

I Hate Altimas. The good news is the build quality on them is much more than it was 8 years ago. I love mom's '02 Maxima tho LoL! There is no point in buying any Nissan car that doesn't have that bestly 3.5L motor.

BTW why are you modding her car?

You're right! That 3.5 almost had me buying an Altima. It won top 10 engine awards since 1995. I was looking at the Altima and the 350Z.

I wasn't thinking too much about the Camry because I bought my wife a 2003 SE I4 and was very happy with it, but I saw the V6 was down on power compared to the others in class. After going to the Nissan dealer I went home and looked around on the net for one last time, making sure I bought the best vehicle for my wants and needs.

To my surprise I noticed the 2004 SE had a all new V6 with VVT-i. It had more HP and tons of torque. It also added a 4 speed automatic with overdrive. So I went straight to the dealer and ordered myself a 2004 SE V6. I ordered the ground effects and the sports pedals. I'm glad I made one last look around before buying the Altima.

I hung out on a few Altima forums when I was car researching. Holy crap, so many people were dissatisfied with their cars, a lot of people wanted to return their cars. The last year is much better, but the first few years of the latest gen had really poor build quality.

Cool

Well, the bad years to own an atima '96-'97 even then retain japanse reliability, the problems with the car was never mechanical, it was always dumb cosmetic shit.

And I will say even the one mom had in '97. Man that I4 has some torque, and it will run once pretty hard once you're in the power band.

The 0-60 in that car is faster than this v6 ES 300 stock. 8s flat v 8.3. You don't see Toyota I4's doing 8s 0-60 with a M/T LoL!

my parents have a 98 altima, and sure the interior quality was nothing special (like a civic or something) but that car was fun to drive, 2.5L with 5 spd, not a very heavy car that thing could go and it handled pretty good too

much funner to drive than my camry i'll admit, no sunroof though

i really miss the groan of that engine at over 5000rpm

How is that possible nick? You have a 3vz-fe, don't you know how really pissed the hell off it sounds when it's revving at 7000rpm? It's glooorious!

Cool

3.5L A/T Maxima has gearing for 167mph if you can get the power, and not blow the tranny after 300crank hp.

I'm a maxihaulic, people around her love modding them.

^You can still get the bushings though, they're not that expensive just a little difficult to install if you don't have the right tools.

I have a 3.5SE-V6 5sp Altima and the interior quality could be better. However, the performance it puts out hands down can just about beat any car in its category minus the turbo-charged 4 cyl's. Im not gonna sit here and say that its the best thing since sliced bread, but every car has its ups and downs just as most people would say the Camry's are well built cars but are slugs in the performance department and have bland styling. I have a 93 Camry and I can honestly say that I love it more than my 2003 Altima. Im pretty sure any new car compared to its older predecessor will seem cheaply built. I dont think any car is built as well it was 10 or more years ago. Basically it all boils down to preference and obviously you guys choose the Altima. Research before for purchase is your friend
