Question want new rims and tires.

Okay, I'm currently running on my 17" motegi mr7 with 215/45/17. The bodykit is evo4, so everyone knows the kit is too big and it sit too low on the ground. I just check the miata calculation and it give me 2 options to do for make my car about 1.3" higher.
1. get new tires which is 225/50/17
or
2. get new rims and tires which is 225/45/18 then sell my old package (only 500 miles on it)

I think I will get the new rims and tires instead, but still worry about rubbing. I searched and found out someone has problem with scrubbing their tires with 225/40/18. Is that true????
Do you guy think 225/50/17 will do better or 225/40/18????? Give me some opinion guys.
