TDC Problem

So i went and got my Chilton's manual today so i could learn more about the cam and how the tune it up etc. So i was reading about the TDC on my cams and decided to check mine out.

WOW, the notch where the bottom cam is supposed to be on Zero is way off, prob -15 more or less. Can i just wrench it back, or do i have to do all the shit the book sais?

When the engine shuts off, will the notch automatically go to the Zero if its aligned right?

it never goes back to zero. also i wouldn't mess with it unless you know what your doing or if you have someone else there who does.

if you car runs good don't worry about the timing ok

What you looked at is the crank pulley, not the cams.

The cams are on the top half of the engine. On top of the cylinder head(s) to be exact.

You can't check the crank & cam timing just by looking at the crank pulley. The upper timing belt cover (1 cover on a I4, 2 on a V6) needs to be removed so that you can see the camgear(s).

To check the aligment you rotate (always turn it clockwise) the crank pulley till the notch on it lines up with the "0" mark on lower timing belt cover.

You might have to rotate it 2 turns (TDC to TDC) to get the camgear(s) to the proper position.

Then you can check the alignment. Everything should be at 0 or TDC.
