Question Minor 5-speed issue...

...my car has about 83k miles and everything is working fine.

However, the shifter does not like to go into the gates sometimes. It is usually an issue in 1st, but sometimes (rare), it won't want to go into 2nd or 3rd.

Is this because of syncros or something else? There is no grinding or anything, it just feels like something is blocking the shifter. I just wiggle it around and it slips in (yes, that sounded VERY wrong )

Switch to a good synthetic gear oil (I use Redline) and put it in 4th (with the clutch in) before you put it in first. Same deal on reverse if you've got a bit of grinding, put it in a forward gear first, then reverse.
