!i!i!i! Weird problem - "Experienced Camry Users" advice needed !i!i!i!
Hello all!
(I've searched on my weird problem and didn't find anything about it)
I have a 92' Camry LE (--> Gen 3<--) with only 62,000 KILOMETERS on it (around 39,000 miles).
I appear to have a weird noise coming from my dashboard. It goes on only when I'm on the highway, with overdrive on (actually never really tried with o/d off), and I accelerate so that RPM nears 3,000. It comes from the left of the dashboard, to the left of the gauges (close, it's inside the dash, not in the engine bay)... It sounds like a drill motor or any small little motors. It didn't bother me too much at the beginning but now it does that anytime I accelerate after reaching 100 km/h (60 mph)...
I'd like to get your opinion on this please, this just can't be a unique problem I would be the only one having... And now it's being a real pain in the a$$...
Someone that knows the alt 685 command to get an upside down exclamation!
!!!¡¡¡iiiNICEiii¡¡¡!!!

I was going to say the same thing. That sounds like the most logical thing for it to be as it has to do with speed and the dashboard. Or RPM cable, one or the other.

yes the gauges are electric but there is still a cable that runs from the wheels to turn the odometer up. the ecu doesn't keep track of miles it's only concern is sensors and efi stuff.

Originally posted by CamryWhat? Why do you have your o/d on highway anyways??? smart one just to let you know you need your 4th gear on the highway bud
Don't listen to him. This guy doesn't know wtf hes talking about.
O/D is 4th gear. Therefore having it ON means you have 4 gears on the highway. If you turn it OFF, your limited to 3 gears which is best for city driving.
It's time for more info.
-does it sound more like an electrical or vibration noise?
-does the pitch/level change with acceleration?
-location speaker, vent, front or rear of dash?
-is it getting worse or just more annoying?
-anything else that might help?
-more electrical, like i said it sounds like a drill
-it's a constant sound that goes on for like 5 seconds and then stops, but will come back if I go under 100 km/h (60mph) and re-accelerate over it again
-location : in dash, left to the gauges, kinda like next to the vent. You can feel it comes from INSIDE the car, not from the engine bay
-worse... not really, I only hear it more often than before, maybe because I drive more and more aggressively, but the noise doesn't change in lenght or intensity.
-anything else? I thought it could have something to do with that overdrive gear being activated at that speed, but what do I know about that anyway...
